Dolphin Encounter through Carnival

Does anyone know how long you actually get to spend with the dolphins in the water? (the encounter, not the swim)

Thanks!

Hi brown28. We just returned 6/7/08 from our cruise. We did the dolphin encounter (not the swim) on 6/5/08 in Freeport. It was myself, my wife, and our 4 y/o daughter (along with 11 other family members).

They put three groups of two people in the water at one time (with younger children, as in our case, groups could be three people instead of two).

There were two dolphins for the encounter. The first two groups would each spend time with one dolphin. When they were done they would exit and the third group would spend time with both dolphins. We were the third group so I had a dolphin to interact with and my wife and daughter had one too. I would estimate our "personal" time in the water with the dolphins at about 5-10 minutes.

There were about 40 people from the ship on this excursion going into the water with the dolphins 6-9 people at a time. In between the groups of 6-9 people going into the water the trainer had the dophins doing tricks, splashing us, giving us info and facts, etc.

Total time spent at the lagoon was about 1 - 1.5 hours. The rest of the time was spent getting there and getting back (about 20 minutes on a bus each way and about 25 minutes on a boat each way).

Hope this helps! If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask.

We were at the Westing Lucaya for 4 days in 2005. We did the dolphin encounter. We got there via "ferry" from the doc across from the hotel. It was s short ride, but very nice. We throughly enjoyed the dolphin encounter and got great pics.

We will be visiting Freeport again in August while on the Carnival Glory. This time we will take a taxi over the marketplace and just hang out near the hotels. Might do a timeshare presentation early on to see what "freebies" we can get during our visit since we have no plans for that port.
