I was on the Grand Princess, a beautiful ship, but the food was AWFUL! Shows were not as good either.

I also did a post over on that board and was attacked by the Princess cheerleaders who are more rapid than Carnival's. I had said a friend had a bad experience with a wedding on one of their ships and got my throat ripped out. I was told if it didn't happen to me don't report it.

Read a few formal attire threads and they seemed almost militant about not showing up without a jacket in the DR. A very different clientele.

If I judged Carnival by some of the people on these boards I would never want to sail Carnival:p God forbid you tell someone about your broken watch;) These boards are simply peoples opinions....and you know what they say about opinons:D The reality is that alot of people sail different cruiselines and enjoy each and everyone for their differences. And if they don't because of what they read on here, well............that is rather sad and pathetic IMO.

Oops that's just my little old opinion:p

We have not cruised nearly as much as we would have liked too.....but we have enjoyed every cruise we have taken. We go with Carnival most often becasue My husband was on active duty during the Viet Nam War and gets the military discount on some sailings. And we love Carnival. Why? Because it is clean. The food suits us fine..we only wish our conscience would let us indulge more. The beds are heaven. The cabins are large. There is always something going on that one 67 year old vet and one 62 year old retired educator enjoys. People seem happy on Carnival. I am happy to be on Carnival, so I like that.

Holland America.....has this snobby crowd ..and they are older than GOD..they have been on a thousand cruises, everything on the Ship is 'theirs'..even the few Trivia games and such they have...that they trump the sweet and pleasants staffs....the lovely ships...except if your air conditioning goes off...YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN....the food is DIVINE...the ships are never crowded...but those passengers...and nothing to do..ugh.

NCL..only once. Lots of Brits and Scotch. Loved them. They played Trivia with us and kicked our fannies...in nice ways. We ate in specialty restaurants..early birds half price...and LOVED THAT. Very luxurious ship. Fancy.

Celebrity. Old bucket Zenith. From the Moment I sat down outside and a woman ,leaving told me what a great time I was going to have, We were enchanted. The elevators did not work..we huffed and puffed all over that ship...the food was too exotic....but the Activities Staff keep some type of group activity going...Tri Bon..Trivia...Battle of the Sexes..which was trivial..not soft porn...Scattergories..Scrabble. ...Ping Pong...AND the passengers bonded. HALF OF THE SHIP SHOWED UP FOR THE BATTLE OF THE SEXES. So when you were on a shore trip...there were your pals from the team you played on...I cried when I got off of that old boat.

I have never been on Princess or RC. Or Costa. Or MSC.

Carnival is easy to get too...Orlando..Tampa...Jacksonville. That matters to us...it saves us a plane trip..a motel...money we can spend on better shore trips and better cabins.

I cannot understand why NCL...Celebrity...Princess...why they don't HAVE ONE cruise at least going out of Middle or North Florida escapes me. The Celebration..as old as it was...usually sailed full...it pulled from Georgia..S.C., N.C. Albama...so I know the customers are there. AND people adored that ship.

And One thing Carnival...although close to perfection..please..More Tiriva...please NEW ISLANDS IN THE SUN OTHER THAN ST.THOMAS AND ST. MARTEIN. PLEASE.

I don't know how Hollard America gets more pleasant Passengers on their Wonderful ships with wonderful food and flowers and other gracious things...but maybe some Carnival Type military discounts would attrack a nicer group....and discounts for RETIRED school teachers as well as active ones....they are usually humble, pleasant sorts. I mean ..those snobby passengers...they are a major turn off.... Why wants to spend a lot of money to feel unwelcome? Or like an intruder? And I should say my DH and I bathe, dress by dress code standards, are well read and well eduated...we are not the Beverly Hillbillies come to cruise.

Thought I would chime in with my thoughts. Our first cruise was Holland American, OMG, what a fabulous time we had. 2nd Caribbean Princess, horrid in comparison. Although to be fair we had a lot of issues going on with our mini suite. I swore I would never go on Princess again. Well did the Star. Fantastic ship, food and crew. Can't wait for the Crown in Oct. Loved our CTN on the Carnival Victory, first Carnival cruise already can't wait until next year for the Saints and Sinners. Thinking of booking Team Splendor. I agree don't slam the whole cruiseline for one bad experience.

Well that was my 2 cents worth so have a super day and enjoy whatever cruise you decide to go on. Remember it is the company you are with that will make it in the long run.:D

This has been an interesting thread for me - after 5 cruises on Princess we booked a cruise on the Conquest for next fall and it will be interesting to see the differences. On our previous 5 cruises I didn't eat ice cream once, and never ate pizza after 1pm so that won't be much of a factor :-) Carnival certainly seems to be less expensive, and the fact they sail out of Galveston (which princess stopped doing a year or so ago) was a big factor in the decision for this cruise. We have been in mini-suites on our other cruises and have a balcony booked on this one so it won't be exactly apples to apples cabin wise, but with the slightly larger cabins on Carnival we should be fine. Thanks for all pros and cons!
