aqusis Posted April 7, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 7, 2004 We stayed there last October and will be staying again in September. I was skeptical becuase I had read some bad reviews but I was pleasantly surprised. From the outside the resort is beautiful. Coral color stucco walls, palm trees, etc. The lobby is also nice. The resort itself is comprised of multiple 2/3 story units that reminded me of the family style motels of the 70's. We had a pool side (cabana) room that was great. The room was very large, colorful and clean. The bathroom could use some updating, VERY small, but was ok. We had a private patio that opened onto the pool deck with our own patio furniture. The pool area is beautiful. A great pool bar, a large pool (much larger than most hotels have) and a separate pool for the kids complete with pirate ship. Hotel is beachfront, however the beach wasn't that impressive. It was very wide and lots of tar and seaweed in the water. Hotel even provides 'tar remover' as it seems to be a problem in the area. We got a great rate of 49.99 last year and that included 2 $5 drink coupons for the bar. This year I booked a cruise and park package through www.parksleepfly.com which was 61.99 and gave us the room, parking, and shuttle (Art's not a hotel shuttle) to the port and back. I don't know if we lucked out and got a good room or what but we experienced nothing like some of the reviews I had read. Facation Fanatic Posted April 7, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 7, 2004 Like the previous poster, I was skeptical of staying there after reading poor reviews, but got a great deal on priceline.com and since I couldn't cancel, I was kinda stuck with it. Knowing what I know now after staying there, even if I could have cancelled, I would not have. The only problem I had was that I had requested ground floor rooms because of 2 elderly and 1 pregnant co-travelers. I asked the clerk when given the keys (3 rooms) if they were on the ground floor and he said they were. However, after finding the rooms, they were on the second floor and only stairs were available to get there. That wasn't going to work. I returned to the clerk, explained the situation, and he moved us to the ground floor. He knocked off the $5 per room resort fee for our trouble. After the expediate and satisfactory resolution, I have no complaints at all. In fact, the way the situation was handle greatly improved my opinion. It is a beautiful hotel and with the exception of a smaller than usual bathroom, I can find no fault. I tried priceline.com again for my cruise coming up at the end of the month and guess what? I got the Holiday Inn again. But, I have no qualms about staying there again whatsoever. Another great deal considering the price of hotel rooms in Cocoa Beach this time of year!!! I would recommend it without hesitation. ruttie Posted April 7, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 7, 2004 They are in the middle of a huge remodel so make sure you get a newly remodled room. I think those are th eonly ones left anyway as they are almost done but.. just for an FYI ask for a remodled room allthough the older ones were fine just old! Adventure Girl Posted April 7, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 7, 2004 I've stayed at that hotel twice. Enjoyed it both times as it was only for one night. I have two small children and we had a family room on the second floor, and the room had a "fort" area with bunk beds and a small table with TV. The kids loved it. Nice pool for the kids too. I wouldn't want to stay there for a week, but for one night before taking a cruise, it is o.k. cruiseky Posted April 13, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 13, 2004 Just curious, how did you get from the Holiday Inn to Port Canaveral? Do they have a shuttle or did you take a cab or what? Thank You, Troy
aqusis Posted April 14, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 14, 2004 You can take a cab, we use Art's shuttle, it's 3$ per person. It's about 4 miles or so. When you check in at the hotel, if you ask they will call Art's for you to make your arrangements. Art's wouldn't let us do it in advance. We were told that only longer trips (like airport in Orlando to pier) were prearranged. Local trips, just call day before. We never had any trouble. They hotel itself does not have a shuttle.
