Soda card

Although I do not drink Soda (coke, pepsi) I do drink Seltzer or club soda, if I were to buy a soda card, would it cover the seltzer. Or do you know if there is even a charge for seltzer? And would the soda card cover bottled water? I believe I read the card is 50.00 is that correct? I cannot find this on the NCL web site. We are traveling on the Dawn on 6/29.

thank you for the link. It says comp. thermal mug. Is this the mug that you would get the drinks in? does that mean I have to walk around with this mug to get a drink? I was hoping it would be a card that I would just show to receive a beverage.

It is a sticker that they stick to your ship ID/key card and no, you do not have to use the mug, we never did!

You might want to try the "beer card" which is part of 2.0.

It's $150 per person but it's only for Michelob and Coors drinks.

The bottom scale beers which go 4.95 to 5.50 on board. At $5 thats 30 beers. I don't think I can drink that much but over 7 or 8 days it might be worth doing.

I believe the cost of the card is around $6.50 per person per day. I do not think it includes bottled water.

 How exactly does the soda card work? I know how much it is per day, but you said something about a sticker. Do they put one on each time you get a soda? Are you limited to how many you can have a day? On Carnival most of the time they just looked at your card and then got the soda for you. My MIL and I shared a soda card.

When you purchase the "soda card" they put a sticker on your keycard that shows you purchased it. You take that card to any bartender and they give you a soda..

You brought it up, so I am just going to tell you..If you share a soda card with someone, that is out and out stealing. No different than if you go to a buffet somewhere in your home town and pay for one person but two of you are eating. They sell those at a given price per person per day. I can't believe you would not know that. If that were not the case, then every one on your ship could have been sharing one soda card.

It is one sticker on your card that shows that you purchased unlimited sodas. Just show your card each time you want a soda.

I never said I had any intention of sharing a soda card with anyone on NCL. (Did I???) HMMMM No. I did say I shared one with MIL on Carnival, but she had a soda limit of one a day. So big deal. By the way who made you the Offical Soda Card Police? Now if I got on here and said I was sharing a card that would be different. Now wouldn't it?

Me too! I have to have my Diet Coke. That's why I was making sure there wasn't a limit each day.;)

I apologize if Carnival has changed their soda card policy since we sailed with them. When we sailed with them the soda card you bought was a charge per person per day. At the time we sailed with them they didnt have the provision that if someone bought the soda card and only got one soda a day, that someone else could share the card. With that, I guess it wouldn't be stealing. It is only stealling if the cruise liine sales the card on a per person per day basis. But you and I know better.. YOU KNOW they sold that card to your MIL for HER use.. not for you to share.. I'm sorry if you are offended.. but it is STEALING.

Who made me the OFFICIAL SODA CARD POLICE? You did when you posted it on here that you stole a service or a product.

Direct quote from Carnival's website:

What is the Fountain Fun Card?

We will offer to all guests the option to purchase a "Fountain Fun Card" which will allow them unlimited soft drinks for the duration of the cruise at a one time purchase price (including gratuities). The "Fountain Fun Card" can be purchased at the casino, lobby and pool bar onboard the ship. In all locations where beverage service is offered, guests may receive a glass of the soft drink of their choice - one glass will be served at a time and only to the guest whose name appears on the card. The card cannot be used through room service

Yes, it does cover the seltzer/plain soda from the fountain. We don't care for the syruped fountain sodas, so we just bring a 12-pack each of our preferred brand. The rest of the time, we use the soda package for club soda throughout the ship. You can ask for it with no lime if you prefer it nude or with a wedge of lemon if you prefer that instead of lime. We also ask for "light ice," which they'll usually do. Unless something has changed (and it may have), you only need your ship card with the sticker on it to get a soda/seltzer. Dragging the mug around is not required.

Or do you know if there is even a charge for seltzer?

Yes, there is a charge. Unfortunately, seltzer/club soda isn't an included beverage. They sometime have cans, which you would buy individually like a can of Coke, but mostly it will be fountain seltzer regardless of whether you buy a glass individually or use the soda sticker.

And would the soda card cover bottled water?

No, it is not included. There is always a charge for bottled water

I believe I read the card is 50.00 is that correct? I cannot find this on the NCL web site.

As others have written, it's not a card, but rather a sticker. One reason they do that instead of issuing an actual card is so that one large group or a family doesn't purchase one "card" to use for everyone. The website is clear that it's a per person deal, but there are many who don't care and who abuse it. The sticker can help limit that because you have to either go get sodas for others or you have to give them your ship card (which you probably know is your stateroom key and your "credit card" on the ship).

We are traveling on the Dawn on 6/29.

As an FYI, my DH and I have found the quality of the fountain seltzer/club soda/sparkling water to be very good, but it's usually better in the indoor venues than at the outdoor bars. I don't know why and that is simply our personal perceptions.

HMMMM, technically you're correct. You didn't say you were planning to share a soda package with someone else; as you admit, you wrote that you already had shared one. You obviously know that's not how the packages are sold (at least, not on any mass market line we've cruised with), so IMO you don't have any right to get insulted when others call you on it. If you didn't want us to know, you shouldn't have mentioned it in the first place.

And yes, I think it's wrong, but that's just me. I could share one with my DH. We would probably have no trouble doing so. The problem is that we would know. It's between you and your conscience. I certainly don't spend even a minute onboard wondering if others who have the soda sticker are sharing it with family or friends. It's true that on our first cruise, we bought my DH the soda package; I had two whole sodas and some "can I have a swallow?"s from his. We decided that it would be better from then on to have our own so we didn't have to hassle with it or have to decide exactly how much "sharing" constitutes a "big deal." I do not think a few swallows here and there is a big deal; I do think getting a full soda every day for someone else is. If someone wants just one soda a day, there's an easy solution: Buy that one soda individually.

Actually, soda card was in my name and they allowed her to use with no ?'s asked. And like I said she only had one soda limit a day.

BEACHGIRL, THAT REPLY HAS TO BE THE DUMBEST THING I EVER READ. YOU DON'T THINK THAT THESE CRUISE LINES KNOW THAT PEOPLE SHARE THESE CARDS. IF THEY HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT DON'T YOU THINK THEY WOULD TRY TO PUT SOME KIND OF RESTRICTIONS ON IT. AND PLEASE CAN YOU FIND THE RULES FOR THE POP CARD AND POST IT, BEFORE YOU AND TEXMEX ACCUSE PEOPLE OF STEALING.

THANKS

First of all, its not TexMex.

Second of all, why is it dumb that BeachChick knows right from wrong and feels bad when she does what she knows is wrong?

Third, We shouldn't have to post the rules. People should be able to have some common sense. Do they have it posted when you go into a buffet that you can't pay for one person and two eat? When you go to the movies and buy a ticket do they have it posted that you have to buy a ticket for each member of your family? NO.. because you have some common sense. You can call me what you want and you can say what you want but every one reading this posting knows if they sell a soda card it is for the ONE person, not for their entire family. I do know every one who steals can justify it in their minds. But stealing is stealing.

What a charming first post. I am typically very polite to others, it would be awfully nice if you responded in kind. BTW, my member name is beachchick not BEACHGIRL. In case you don't know, using all caps is considered shouting. If that was your intention, fine; I'll considered myself yelled at. If not, please respect online etiquette.

I don't think anyone has ever called anything I wrote the "dumbest thing" they've ever read. I'm so flattered!

Regarding the soda package: The cruise lines do put restrictions on it. Typically, they rely on passengers to honor the agreement they made when they bought the package. And since you asked, here it is (directly from NCL's own website):

Unlimited Fountain Soda

Includes: Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Ginger Ale, Tonic Water, and Soda Water

The entire cruise must be purchased. Non-Refundable.

Prepaid @ $6.25 per person per day x Cruise days plus 15% gratuity

and applicable taxes

Souvenir Thermal mug included in the purchase of the program

$6.25/day

Is anything about that unclear to you?

Actually, I think I will pass on the soda card and just bring my own. There that's that.;)

Yes, that's a great option. Many people do. If you want to keep cans and/or bottles really cold, bring a collapsible cooler and ask your cabin steward to keep it filled with ice. The "mini bars" keep things cool, but we like really ice cold soda.
