kkcarlton Posted June 22, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 22, 2008 Hi, Are there any nice places to snorkel in Cozumel where you don't have to take a boat out? We will be there end of July with a cruise (1 PM to 10 PM). We've been to Cozumel many times before but never in the evening. We have a fav restaurant that we would like to go to in the evening, and thought about snorkeling during the day. However, we are on a tight budget and can't really afford to book one of the shore excursions. Is there a nice beach we can go to that also has some decent snorkeling? Thanks! drdaddy Posted June 22, 2008 #2 Share Posted June 22, 2008 Absolutely! Chankanaab is not too far from the piers depending on which pier you are at. That is where most of the ship excursions go anyway. You can get in from shore, usually down some stone steps. But the better area, I think, is called Dzul Ha. I do not know what the entrance fee would be. Google Chankanaab or Dzul Ha. This was my very first snorkeling experience and sold me on it ever since. sugarbee92501 Posted June 23, 2008 #3 Share Posted June 23, 2008 We cruised last year and our last stop was in Cozumel. We took an excursion to Punta Sur Beach. It is an ecological park and was not very crowded. There is also a light house and museum within the park. I'm not sure how much it would cost you to snorkel, but it was the most beautiful white sands and blue ocean I've ever seen. We snorkeled there and were able to just walk right into the water. It was amazing! It wasn't very far from the pier either! Good luck!
oldmedic Posted June 24, 2008 #4 Share Posted June 24, 2008 I second the Dzul Ha recommendation. It shares the same reef as Chakanaab, but if free to enter. there is a great beach with lots of places to relax, either in the sun or in the shade.... also has a good restaraunt within steps and offers guided tours of the reef..... very easy swim and excellent guides when we were there last... cab ride is about $8-$10 each way, and the margueritas and nachos are great....
