travel_mom_1 Posted June 23, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 23, 2008 My husband and I are booked on the October 20th Sky saling. We have an Cat. D room, oceanview. I am considering upgrading us to a balcony. What are the differences between a BA, BB, BC? What would you pick and why? I know that location is different, but is an BA aft balcony bigger? Are a BB and BC more private? Does a BA have an overhang overhead or is it more open than a BB, BC? Does anyone have pictures of either balconies? Thanks for your input! intrepid_guy Posted June 23, 2008 #2 Share Posted June 23, 2008 Stephanie The only difference between a BA BB BC is location... you are paying the difference for the location only. All of these categories are the same size... ~Intrepid
electricron Posted June 23, 2008 #3 Share Posted June 23, 2008 On the Sky, valid for almost all NCL ships, the balcony cabins are basically the same size on individual ships. The sole exception being the Pride of America. Aft facing balcony cabins, and a few port & starboard balcony cabins located near the forward elevator banks have larger balconies than most. Which ships did you wish to ask about, as you wrote both POA and Sky in your header?
travel_mom_1 Posted June 23, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted June 23, 2008 By POA/Sky, I meant Pride of Aloha which is being renamed Norwegian Sky. I guess that would be a little confusing though. It's good to know they are the same size. The price would be the same for me for all 3 categories due to an upgrade certificate so with no size difference I would just need to choose based on location. Are the aft balconies kind of stair stepped out from deck to deck allowing the people above you to see onto your balcony? Stephanie
gjsmth Posted June 23, 2008 #5 Share Posted June 23, 2008 When we booked a balcony in May thru our TA and NCL upgraded us from cat. BC to cat. BA. Our travel agent let us know that above us would be the pool deck so she suggested that we go with the 9th floor/deck cat BB which we did. This way we would not have the pool deck(cat. BA) above or the international deck (cat.BC) below us which has the casino, shops and stage. So, I'd look at deck 9 cat. BB. Happy sailing. I just got off the Sky from cabin #9276 category BA on deck 9. Take a look at the pictures from the link in my signature. You'll see for yourself that aft balconies are bigger than side balconies. For some reason, some people just don't believe that. I guess you have to see for yourself to believe. Don't be fooled by the size of a balcony in a deck plan. MANY times, it is not to scale. If I were you I would pick a aft BA on deck 9. Good luck!

Stephanie Hi Stephanie, My husband and I were in 9031 on the Sky (a BC category balcony). I definitely recommend the 9th floor for reasons mentioned above. But, our cabin was across from crew service doors....we were rookies and didn't know what to look for really.... We loved our room...it was a little tight....but, having the balcony was wonderful! On the side, nobody can look down into your cabin. I'm sure blackersby will tell you about the aft balcony.... DH and I simply left the balcony door open when we wanted to be "amorous" and still enjoy the ocean breeze. ;)
tamarara65 Posted July 24, 2008 #10 Share Posted July 24, 2008 I think the aft balcony is definitely worth the upgrade. It's just beautiful at night when you're "sailing away". and not windy either. I think people generally are not looking to peak in at others on the balcony. I didn't find privacy to be an issue.
