Canary Port info

Recommended Posts

Lisbon - Very easy shuttle bus service, I would take the train to the cost some stunning beaches. If not you can get taxi for about 10 euros into the town. The train station is right near the docks.

Madeira - There is a little shuttle boat that takes you right into the town. Take the Cable car up to the top. Do not book a tour here, Very good restaurant called the Arco small family run place used by the locals well worth a try. Madeira is a stunning Island and the ship should stop over night here!!!

Las Palmas (Canary isles) - There is a shuttle bus from the docks to the start of the town very pretty little place great little church. Also nice small beech round the corner only 5 mins from the docks.

Prahia Da Rocha - tender port worth a stroll good for the beech

Vigo - Place to shop and have coffee and watch the world go by you are docked right in the centre.

Hope that helps.

Hi,

Lisbon - get shuttle bus into town or, if you feel energetic and it's not too hot a nice walk along the docks towards April 25th bridge gets you to the train station where we caught a train (funny that!!) to Cascais for about 3 1/2 euro's/adult return ticket and had a lovely day further along the coast.

If only 1/2 day in Lisbon I recommend the Red tram trip - available from the opposite side of Plaza de Comercial (?sp.) where the shuttle drops you off. Tickets available onboard 2 hour round trip of Lisbon with commentary in choice of languages for 17 euros in 2007.

Madeira - get off the ship and across the bay (if there is the free boat provided from one side of the harbour to the other it is a nice way to arrive in town) and then when you are onto the main promenade turn riight, walk past the hot air balloon (which may, or may not, still be offering rides) and carry on walking along the promenade with the harbour on your right. It's about 10 minutes walk to the base station for the cable car to Monte. If, like me, you are not the type to enjoy the cable car there is a lovely cafe at the bottom next to the station where you can while away a couple of hours people watching the other passengers as they wait for their turn in the cable car.

Vigo - if you are into churches and religious culture then a trip to Santiago de Compostela is one trip not to be missed - not sure if it can be done independently.

Otherwise, if you simply want a day at the beach then walk off the ship and up to the entrance to the docks where you will find the taxi rank (all taxi's painted white) and ask to be taken to Samil, there is a lovely beach there - in fact it is the same on as in the excursion but you can have a whole day there for about 6 euro's each way taxi fare. There is a lido between the beach and the road, there is a very nice shop/restaurant where we enjoyed cold drinks and ices and then there is the beach (beware some locals/Spanish holiday makers do go topless on the beach but not too many of them)
