Gumbalimba Park and Tabyana Beach

We would like to do both Gumbalimba Park and then Tabyana Beach. From what I understand you have to book the park through the cruise, which we will do. But if we want to see the monkeys, walk around a little and leave to go to Tabyana, is that possible? Or are we stuck there until the shuttle arrives? We are taking Carnival in Jan. Any input would be helpful. If we cant do both or at least do both while spending most of our day at the beach we will probably just book the Coral Cay Beach excursion. Thanks for any help
