Perhaps someone else with more technical savvy can chime in here, but it's my understanding that helicopters rarely make landings on a 'moving' ship due to the danger involved with the pitching and rolling.

I work offshore and know for a fact that helicopters can land in uo to a 3 degree roll or oitch. Very seldom will you get close to that on a cruise ship. Remember, this is done due to an emergency.

Yes, had it happen on the Norwegian Star in December off the coast of Hawaii. The seas were moderately rough that night and a passenger had a heart attack. What amazed me even more was the C-130 that made a pass by the ship. The C-130 was used as a refuling vehicle incase the helicoper ran low on fuel. The helicopter landed a hour after sun rise. Those people in our armed forces deseve alot of respect for a job well done. By the way our cruise schedule was alterned, we spent one day at Kona Hawaii, and instead of 1/2 a day at Maui we got 2 full days. I don't think it get any better than that. Tim

Yes, was on the Seranade last day of our trip on 1-23-04, and in AM helicopter came in to evac a cardiac patient. Crew seemed to be well trained, and handled it as a normal deal, although I know this does not occur every trip. Was reassuring to see how it was handled in such a professional manner.

We were on Serenade that day, too. In fact, a picture of the helicopter coming in to land is now my computer desk top pic. The captain diverted back toward Guadeloupe, and they sent the helicopter out from there.
