Need assistance in planning for Heraklion, Crete

Our ship arrives in Heraklion at 8:00 AM and departs at 6:00 that evening.

 

We have a driver (booked for five hours), and are planning to travel immediately to Knossos and remain for about 2 hours. I have heard that the village of Arthanes (not too far from H) received an International award for being an exemplary restored village. Does anyone know about this? The website does not go into too much detail. I also believe there are archeological ruins in Arthanes. I would appreciate comments regarding a plan for the five hour itinerary as well as any other villages in the area that warrant a visit. I am communicating with our driver re the itinerary but also value your comments. Thanks
