Security Question

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me how security is in Galveston upon embarkation? Do you have to pass through a metal detector? Do they search your carry on luggage? Luggage go through X-ray? Just wanna know what to expect. Thanks!

I have not been to Galveston, but the security seems pretty standard at all the other ports. All checked bags are x-rayed. When the passengers go through the terminal they go through a metal detector and carry-on bags are x-rayed just as they are at the airport.

<param name="year" value=2004>
<param name="month" value=03>
<param name="day" value=19>
<param name="hour" value=17>
</applet>

Donuts, is there anything they can't do....

As with getting on a cruise ship at all US ports of embarkation, the security provisions are the same. You will check your large baggage with porters, who will take it to the port authority's scanning area, where all the bags that go on the ship will be x-rayed. If they find something that is illegal, or looks to be, they will not open your bag, but will set it to the side, and call you to come down and open it for the security people.

You will then go through a screening just like at the airport. You will put your carry on bags through an x-ray machine, and you will walk through a metal detector. You will then be in the "secured" area, and spared from further searches.

Additionally, every time you leave the ship and get back on, you will go through the same process as you do at the airport. Its no big deal, just know what to expect.

Have a great time!

Due to homeland security regulations I believe you have to go through one.

People often tend to overlook this during a cruise. This happens each time as you board or re-board at a port of call.

It is prudent to keep this in mind with respect to your film. The TSA advises that you should limit the number of trips through a "carry-on" x-ray machine down to 5 or less. The effect is cumulative. I personally try to avoid ALL x-rays for my film, but sometimes the port screeners are a bit anal about it, and refuse to do a manual inspection.
