A couple more questions re Pacific Sun 23rd July

I have a few more questions about our cruise

- Regarding lanyards. Do we get supplied with these with our cruise card or do we need to purchase these before we go. Which type of store would we purchase them from?

- Currency. Do we use A$$ at Lifou and Mystery island? In Vila, can we get by without having to buy the local currency? We plan to do things like Iririki Island, duty free shopping in town, taxi out to Cascades, Hideaway island. Can we use NZ$ anywhere at these places?

Counting down now - only 9 days to go!

Lanyards - Either take your own - you can probably buy them at a 'Cheap shop'. You can buy them on board. Around $7 each.

I don't know if people at those ports accept NZ currency. I know they accept Aussie dollars at Lifou, Mystery Island and Vila, but they may not really be aware that the ship is operating out of Auckland for a short while.

Have a fantastic cruise.:):)

Either ... you can purchase them on board (about $6.50/$6.95 - someone who's come back recently will confirm I'm sure) - they have the name of the ship - or perhaps just P&O on them (they were selling both when we cruised in February) - or you can get them from the cheap shops for a couple of dollars.

- Currency. Do we use A$$ at Lifou and Mystery island?

The little market stalls in Lifou were accepting either CPF or AUD when we were there in 2007. Can't help you on Mystery Island (but will be interested in any responses you get!!!)

In Vila, can we get by without having to buy the local currency? We plan to do things like Iririki Island, duty free shopping in town, taxi out to Cascades, Hideaway island.

You can use AUD just about everywhere in Vila I believe ... we used it for small purchases, and our credit card for the larger/duty free purchases in town.

Can we use NZ$ anywhere at these places?

Sorry can't help with this one - but am sure someone will give you an answer soon!

Lucky Lucky you!!!! how exciting! Hope you have a wonderful time!!!:D

P&O don't supply lanyards, some TAs do. You can buy them onboard, they were $6.95 last year. Otherwise, mobile phone kiosks, two dollar type shops often have them. We bought some for $2.

You don't need local currency at Lifou, Mystery or Vila. Certainly they accept Aussie but not sure about Kiwi, I would think so since the Sun is cruising from NZ for a few months.

Lanyards cost about AU$7.00. We got our own from the $2 Shop before we left but a lot of people get the P&O ones as souveneirs. When we went to Lifou and Mystery Island we found they preferred Australian dollars and were not familiar with Nz dollars. Not sure about taxis and Iririki Island as we didn't go there but I'm sure someone else will know. Hope this helps.

Hi there, yep we can't wait either until the 23rd.....

We bought lanyards on our 1st cruise and just use them again. It's interesting when 'eagle eyed' staff see them and ask when you last cruised etc, found with a 'purser' that was originally quite cool towards us that he 'warmed' when he noticed that we had a lanyard from a previous cruise ( they seem to change them every season or so).

Regarding money we always use $Aussie as they are taken at all the places, taxis included. We noticed that at Vila most of the shops display both vatu and $A prices....taxis drivers are usually that keen that I'm sure you could even get away with trading in the ole 'mother in-law' at times:eek: but seriously all you need is Aussie money.

Hope the weather and seas treat us kindly:)

I can't believe it is only 9 days to go - getting really excited! We hav e decided to change from NZ to Aus dollars before we go - there is a good kiosk for this at Britomart - right outside the train station - seems to have reasonable rates (at least on Sunday when I was passing there they did). We figure if we have any Aus left we can excahnge it back on our return home.

I was talking to a lady at work who used to work at the casino on the ship and if you are interested she said that is Aus $ too.

Hi. Just a little more information for you regarding Aussie $. They also use Aussie $ in the ship's casino, poker machines and also at Sea Horse racing. if you don't get a chance to exchange your NZ$ at home you can get a cash advance at the casino on the ship but they charge a fee of about 3% to your ship account. Have a great trip :)

Thanks so much for all the replies. Will exchange some NZ$ into A$ before we go. And will visit the $2 shop for the lanyards.(Failing that there are half a dozen chinese emporiums down the road which will more than likely have them!).
