We are being dropped off in Galveston for the start of out trip. My question is would you use the Carnival transfer or take a cab back to Houston Intercontinental? Which is cheaper? Oh and we have plenty of time our flight is not until 6 that evening so we have even thought about grabbing some lunch by port and then grabbing a cab back to the airport.

sorry i just went back and read the post again. i believe i've read that the cost for bush intercontnental is abbout $80

Since you have plenty of time before your flight, Carnival shuttle should be cheaper.

It's a good hour and a half from Galveston to IAH. You can also look into Super Shuttle. Their prices are much lower than a cab if you want to stay in Galveston and have lunch first!

I'd absolutely take some type of shuttle or, if possible, rent a car if it can be dropped at IAH. I flew into Houston several years ago and took a cab to the west side of town (I grew up in Houston and had just moved away - so I knew the best route and he did exactly what I wanted) but the cost was still close to $50 all in.

 

I'd say the cost for a cab (in today's environment) will be substantially more expensive.

 

If you do rent a car and want some good grub in Galveston - try Gaido's - it's really good seafood on the seawall (it's just a tradition as our family has owned property on the island for close to 40 years).

We found it was going to be just a little more to rent a car, park it for the 5 days we are gone and then return it to Houston Hobby than it was to take a shuttle. We decided to go that way so we'd be able to stop on the way etc. if we wanted. And since we are staying a night post-cruise, we'll have a way to get around.

A car from the cruise terminal to IAH with AAA discount through Hertz is 60 bucks. We decided to do that because it is cheaper per person and we can stop on our back to see the Space Center.
