blyle Posted August 5, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 5, 2008 The city of Houston is beginning the 102 Express bus from Iah to Downtown Houston in August. Cost $15pp one way / 30 Rd Trip, time 30 minutes. If you want to stay downtown , you can take this bus, call the hotel shuttle to pick you up when you get to the downtown transit center and then rent a car the next day from one of the hotel locations. The airport rentals usually charge many more fees. There is also a regular 102 bus limitedthat makes many stops and takes approx 75 minutes to get downtown and is much cheaper ($2 pp) if you don't mind going through many neighborhoods and making stops. You can catch both buses at the terminal. Downtown hotels are not always expensive based on whether there is a team playing etc. Last year we were able to get $89 and $99 rates. I know this sounds involved but with gas prices so high all modes of transportation are getting expensive. Check out the rental prices from downtown and DON"T tell them you came in on a plane!!! Hopefully the shuttle price will change once they realize that $15 pp is not that cheap. For now its all we have to offer unfortunately! For hotels downtown check Doubletree, Hyatt, Crowne Plaza, Residence Inn, Inn at the Ballpark, Hilton, Lancaster, Hi Express, Courtyard by Marriott and I believe there is a Comfort Inn now. You may be pleasantly surprised at the rates!
