Gunters Oma Posted August 26, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 26, 2008 Would like information about this excursion. It is a Mississippi River Boat that navigates the Saint John River. "...travel past cable ferries,a covered bridge, lighthouses, and catch glimpses of the abundant wildlife..." Anyone been on this? Any local folks have an opinion? I would love any input. :) Thanks Jayne

The river is a gem and the scenery is gorgeous. There are quite a few cable ferries along the river system. They are free and are part of the highway system. You can usually spot eagles or osprey flying over the treetops. It is really an undiscovered treasure--very uncrowded and natural. It is too bad that you only have a few hours to enjoy it. The whole river system is so large that you will only be scratching the surface.
Gunters Oma Posted August 27, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted August 27, 2008 Thanks Sapper1 - I appreciate the info. We are trying to decide between the river cruise and St. Martin. I'm thinking the river cruise....do you think I'm making the right choice?
sapper1 Posted August 27, 2008 #4 Share Posted August 27, 2008 Thanks Sapper1 - I appreciate the info. We are trying to decide between the river cruise and St. Martin. I'm thinking the river cruise....do you think I'm making the right choice? I know you have to choose as you can't do both. St. Martins is a very picturesque and charming village. It is always a favourite "Sunday drive" location for us. If anyone in your party has mobility issues then I would certainly say to take the river trip as it takes a bit of agility to walk out to the caves in St. Martins---not a hard walk but if walking on uneven surfaces is a problem, it is not such a good idea. You will find plenty of scenery to photograph on either trip and I wish I could say that one stands out way ahead of the other, but I can't. From the pier it is about a 45 minute drive to St. Martins as opposed to about 8 minutes to the Saint John Marina. The marina is in a rather seedy, depressing part of town. Whatever you decide to do, I hope the weather co-operates and that you have a wonderful time.
Gunters Oma Posted August 27, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted August 27, 2008 Thanks again Sapper1. It is a hard choice! This is our second trip to Saint John - on our first trip we explored your wonderful city. We especially enjoyed seeing the extraordinary architecture - so beautiful! And the Museum was one of the best we have ever been to - very interesting. Jayne
sailaway5 Posted June 8, 2009 #6 Share Posted June 8, 2009 We are considering this tour also when we are in port in October. Has anyone taken it that can share input on what you saw. Are there many lighthouses? Any info will be appreciated.
