Is There A Shuttle Bus Between Southampton Terminals?

Recommended Posts

I will be arriving on the Queen Mary 2 at the Southampton City Cruise Terminal on October 10, 2008.

The Queen Elizabeth 2 will be docked at the Queen Elizabeth II Terminal.

Is there a shuttle bus service between the terminals? I am not a long distant walker.

I would like to get to see the QE2 while dockside before I return to the QM2 for the tandem crossing with the QE2 at 5PM the same day.

Thanks for any help.

There is no shuttle bus. Also, the terminals are located in port/industrial areas so it is not an easy walk.

The best way to get a good view of QE2 at the QEII terminal is to take the Hythe Ferry. It leaves from the Town Quay every 30 minutes and goes right by the QEII terminal. As a result, you get excellent views of the ship. You can then either look around Hythe or take the ferry back immediately (quite a few people stay for the round trip). I am planning to post some pictures taken from the ferry on my website over the weekend.

The easiest thing to do would be to take a taxi to the Town Quay. It is not all that far from the City Terminal but it is not an easy walk with the trucks and other traffic.

Terrence,

As Bob says, there is no shuttle bus. In any case, personally, I wouldn't bother going to the QE2 terminal if your aim is to get a good view of the ship. It is a very cluttered area and the ship is largely obscured by the terminal building itself and all sorts of other dockside clutter.

By far and away the best view of ships at the QE2 terminal is to be had from Hythe Pier on the other side of Southampton Water. Personally, I would get a taxi to the Town Quay and take the Hythe Ferry over to the Pier. If your aim is to take photographs this would best be done after midday as you will find that, in the morning, the light is against you.

You can find more info on the Hythe Ferry (including a timetable and fares) here:

You can see a photograph of Queen Victoria at the QE2 Terminal taken from Hythe Pier on one of my websites here:

Here is a link from Google maps giving a run down of the locations and route between the the two terminals : Mayflower to QE2 Terminal.

A taxi will cost just over £5 so is probably the best option. If you are athletic you can walk the 2.5 miles but most of the route is pretty dull. In the central area you have the maritime museum and the Mayflower monument.

The Hythe ferry come in at town Quay area (close to where the Southampton - Cowes ferry sails from). You also get views of both the terminals from the piers at Town Quay.
