Snorkelling excursion WITHOUT stringray city

Hi!

 

Interested in snorkelling from a boat without seeing the stingrays (been there done that - didn't like it!)

 

Read about the Reef and Wreck excursion but can't seem to find it online - checked some websites but all trips seem to include the stingrays.

I'm very interested in this as well. So far all I can see if you want to snorkel w/o the stingrays is to go to Eden rock or Rum point on your own.

Ski ninja - those are both shore snorkeling, right? Really wanted the experience of a boat trip out to the reefs....hopefully someone has a suggestion!

Nope haven't found anything....we're over a year out so I am hoping, if nothing else, we can book through the cruiseline.

You can do the cali wreck on your own. Once out of the cruise tender area take a left and it is by a small lighthouse about 3-5 minute walk. It is right off the beach and they have white or blue sorry cant remember bouys floating by the wreck. You can try and google it cali wreck and see if it gives any other info I know there was a site with directions a while back but I didnt save it. You should be able to find it

The last time we were on Grand Cayman we snorkeled at Eden Rock which was a five minute walk south of the cruise tender docks. We've snorkeled there a few times and if conditions are good, which they usually are, the snorkeling is fantastic. You do need to find out from the dive/snorkel center there (where you can rent gear) where the reefs are. You need to swim out about a hundred yards or so to get to the best spots but it was not too difficult - although once when conditions were not so nice there was a stronger current and we didn't want to swim out that far.

 

After we snorkeled at Eden Rock we ate lunch at a place called Hammerheads, which was along the water about a five minute walk north of the tender docks (10 minuites or less from Eden Rock). We noticed that the Cali wreck was right offshore there. There were docks there where you enter the water but I didn't see anyplace to rent gear. We did decide that on a future trip we would try to head out earlier so we'd have time to snorkel there as well as at Eden Rock.

 

On one trip we met up with friends who were staying on the island for a week. They arranged a private small boat for snorkeling with 6 passengers. We did stop at stingray city for a short time, but also stopped longer at a couple of reefs in the North Sound (a large area where stingray city is located on the other side of the island from Eden Rock and 7 mile beach) The reefs we stopped at were much nicer than the ones we'd seen on a couple prior group tours to stingray city. Couldn't say if they were nicer than Eden Rock as they were different and I didn't do the trips close enough to each other to compare. If you don't want to just do Eden Rock or the Cali wreck, which you don't need a boat for, then you might want to google some dive companies and ask about snorkel trips to the North Sound which don't include Stingray City.
