Sept Iles

I've been to Sept-Îles a few times, but it has always been a stopping point when going elsewhere. It is the southern terminus of the Quebec North Shore & Labrador Railway, over which Tshiuetin Rail Transportation operates passenger trains northward to Schefferville. I've always stayed at the Hôtel Sept-Iles, which is located right on the waterfront where one can pleasantly stroll. I don't know of many activities other than taking some boat tours to visit the seven islands. You can download a tourism guide here. www.tourismeseptiles.ca/Document/WEBAPraticalHolidayGuide2008.pdf

The port's website is at http://www.portsi.com/ The city's website is at http://www.ville.sept-iles.qc.ca/accueil.php but that's only in French. Google's Translator will help, try http://translate.google.ca/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ville.sept-iles.qc.ca%2Faccueil.php&sl=fr&tl=en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8 for a translation (as best as Google can do.)

They have a museum at http://www.mrcn.qc.ca/english/index.htm

The three most famous to ever reside in Sept Iles are likely: Brian Mulrouney, Margot Kidder and Guy Carbonneau (of the Montreal Canadians.)

It's real claim to fame was that it was once the second largest deep water port in Canada, behind Vancouver... in the 1950s, when they were shipping Iron Ore from there.
