LindaKE Posted September 19, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 19, 2008 When cruising from Quebec to Boston via the St. Lawrence River, is there an advantage to either port or starboard? Sorry for repititious posts, the search engine is down.
Ephraim Posted September 19, 2008 #2 Share Posted September 19, 2008 The population leaves on the south shore more than the north shore, but I would guess that the ships pretty much travel the centre of the estuary. When you get past Riviere du Loup the estuary is a few km wide, I don't think there would be much of anything to see on the trip through the estuary. After Ile d'Orlean it's an estuary, all the way to the Atlantic.

sapper1 Posted September 25, 2008 #4 Share Posted September 25, 2008 What do you mean by this? It is a new phrase to me. Since most people live on the south shore (starboard side) when you get north of Quebec City, I think that is what he meant. "Leaves" was a typo for "lives". Ephraim Posted September 25, 2008 #5 Share Posted September 25, 2008 What do you mean by this? It is a new phrase to me. I mean LIVES. Quebec City is on the north shore of the river, but as you move through the area it is clear that the populations on the south shore of the St. Lawrence are larger than those of the north shore, especially as you get closer to the mouth of the river. The north shore was more popular with industrial towns, the south shore with farming and trading. In the end, the south shore is the populous and if you want to see scenery, then you want to look at the north. If you want to see towns, then the south shore.
