Coco421 Posted September 28, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 28, 2008 Is there anyone who has been on both? If so which Itinerary do you recommend and why? They both look nice. Having hard time trying to decide on Sawyer Glacier or Glacier Bay.

Having hard time trying to decide on Sawyer Glacier or Glacier Bay. Yes, we've been on both the Pearl and the Star to Alaska but when we were on the Star, it was before the Pearl was built and did the itinerary that the Pearl is now doing. For a first time cruiser to Alaska, I would choose Glacier Bay. You spend almost the whole day cruising there and the glaciers and scenery are magnificent. We have been to Glacier Bay 4 times (2005-2008) and each time it's a little different but so enthralling. We have been to Tracy Arm Fjord/Sawyer Glacier twice (back in 2003 and 2004) but never got that close to the glaciers to see and hear the calving. The cruise down Tracy Arm is beautiful but last year many times the Star had to change its itinerary to Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier because of too much ice in the fjord. But from reviews I've read, that was just as beautiful. Hope this helps a little!:)
more cruises Posted September 28, 2008 #3 Share Posted September 28, 2008 If you want to see glaciers choose the Pearl. I was on the Star-we didn't make it in to Sawyer Glacier and Dawes Glacier was so far away it wasn't very impressive. All the chunks of ice in the water were pretty cool though.
