Karin -

We have not done the Princess Dolphin Encounter in Cozumel, but we did do the Dolphin Quest in West End, Bermuda on our Aug 15-24 9 day Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Caribbean Princess, and it was TERRIFIC! It was not a Princess sponsored excursion. We had a great time - learned a lot, and spent over 30 min with our own guides with the dolphins. Hope to scan and have those photos up on my website soon (they do not allow your own photography - you must purchase theirs) Have a great cruise - you'll love the dolphin experience! I will work on scanning today so should be up later today:

We did the dolphin encounter in Cozumal in 2006. Very fun, you get to spend probably 2 hrs in there with them. Dorsal tow, nose push etc. really fun, you are in the actual ocean with them, in a fenced in area, not in a pool or pen.

First time cruiser here and getting very excited! Has any one ever taken the Dolphin Encounter Excursion in Cozumel by Princess? If so, what did you think of the tour operators etc.

Thanks,

Kruisin Karin!!

I did the Dolphin encounter in 2005 in Cozumel and it was great. Make sure you do the more expensive one where you get to go out and swim with them. There was a cheaper one where you stood on a platform in about waist deep water and the dolphin would swim around and you could touch it. The one where you swim with them you wll get towed by the dolphin. It will come up and give you a kiss also. Then you get to get out in the middle of the pen and the dolphins will swim around and you can touch them and interact with them.

I would highly recommend it.

By all means do the more expensive one, which is actually the Royal Dolphin Swim according to Chankanaab Park. We LOVE it!!! We have done it over half a dozen times and look forward to more opportunities.

Be prepared - the facilities are great, clean, new. You will have a locker to put clothes and valuables in. Good idea to make sure that one of those valuables is a working credit card. The photographers at the park will take pics of you with the dolphins, and we usually wind up buying at least 4 -- sometimes almost all of them. They also put together a DVD of the experience for you. You will see all of it, and then be able to order a copy which will be waiting for you at the gift shop. Translation - we spend as much on the DVD and photos as on the dolphin swim itself, but those pictures are the core of our "happy wall" of travel photos.

Even thought we always take a few disposable cameras along, we cannot get the wonderful closeups that the photographers at the park shoot.

Have a fantastic time!!!!

(Oh - wear your flipflops as far out on the boardwalk as you can. The wood gets really hot! And, do not rest against the fence when in the water - fire coral grows on it.)
