Parking At Miami Port?

We will be on the Carnival Valor's Jan.9th cruise. Thinking of Driving to the port. Does anyone have any experience with parking at the port in Miami. Any information / helpful hint appreciated.

We will be driving down this Saturday as we are on the Triumph. From previous posts on this topic apparently the parking charge is $12.00 per day but if you have disabled tags or a handicapped hanging tag, there is no charge. Not quite sure of the reasoning behind this but would appreciate any explaination from anyone who has been able to park for free.
