Cruising alone

Due to unforseen circumstances, I'll be cruising alone in a couple of weeks. Any tips or suggestions?

Just have fun and enjoy...I've cruised several times alone...Its not quite the same as having someone in your room, and can get lonely at times.

But if your outgoing and not to shy, you should be ok...Try to be at a large table for dining. Sometimes they will even try to put you with other singles. Go to the dining room for Breakfast and Lunch also, and be seated with other guests. You meet more people that way.

Join your roll call here if there is one! Its a great way to meet people even before you board. I've cruised solo as well; always had a blast & met people I connected with! A cruise is really the perfect solo vacation!

I agree. You should check the roll call and sit in the DR for bfast and lunch. I'd also requsst a dinner table with other singles before you board and check again about that when you get onboard. The roll call is a nice way to get to know other cruisers before you even get on the ship. Enjoy your cruise, Kaboochi

I've cruised solo quite a few times and always had a blast. Being able to do anything you want, when you want can be nice and with so many friendly, happy people around I've never been lonely.

 

Most times, not always, I've been seated at a large table with other singles in the DR which makes it fun too.

 

I always join the roll call and a good place to hang out at night alone is the piano bar. Doesn't quite feel as intimidating as going into some of the other lounges.

I've cruised solo once and loved it. You really have the freedom to do exactly what you want to do without worrying about anyone but yourself. I had a wonderful time at dinner with a large group and sometimes met up with them for other meals.

 

Depending on your ports of call, you may strongly consider joining a group and not wandering off the beaten path alone. Or take a shore excursion.

I LOVE to cruise solo! I think it is the absolute best vacation.

 

I would also suggest that you request a large table. I have always reuested a large table, late seating and been seated with other single people.

 

Lunch and Breakfast in the Dining Room are nice espescially if you want company since you will be seated with other people. I enjoy doing this and meeting new people. I also enjoy the experience of just going alone on the Lido Deck. Sometimes it is nice to just sit back and people watch!

 

Do not be afraid to go to various venues on the ship alone! there is nothing wrong with walking into a show and sitting by yourself. There are more people doing this than you realize. Also....it is usually very easy to chat with people around you.....The piano bar, casino, wine bar etc often have people in there who are "alone". Many couples/groups traveling together don't all like to do the same thing at the same time and therefore go off alone to different venues.

 

I do tend to book the ship excursions when I travel solo.

i am cruising solo for the 2nd time this year on the Glory. i have gotten myself into my roll call and am actually meeting two of the ladies Friday night before the cruise for dinner. i dont know either of them but they sound like great fun. i wish i had known about the roll call a little more before last years cruise but i still had the time of my life. this year will be even better.

The Roll Call is a great way to go! Just do not be discourages if the Roll Call for your sailing is not very active. I have gone solo with a fantastic Roll Call whom I met many of the people and had a blast with but also sailed solo quite well when the Roll Call did not pan out for me.

 

As far as the table goes.....when you booked your cruise you made a request for a time. Call whomever you booked with (TA/PVP etc) and make the request with them. What I do - and would suggest - is when you board the ship you will have the dining assignment on your S&S card. On embarkation day one dining room will be open (around 1:00ish - this will be on the letter you get at check in) to meet the Maitre D' and request changes. I usually stop by and simply first ask what size table I will be at and the general makeup. I explain why. They will have basic info on your table - size, # of ppl and if they are booked as couples, solos, etc. I have had them tell me that i was seated with others who were alone as well as what appeared to be mom & teen child, once the ships sign language interpreter etc , for example.

 

I have never been at a small table when I cruised solo but if I was seated with just another couple for some reason I would then asked to be switched.

 

You can also opt to just show up the first night and if things are not to your liking ask to be changed.

What ship will you be on? I am traveling solo on the Pride on Nov. 30th. While I am a little amprehensive I am SOOOO looking forward to the alone time!

Of my cruises, I've done about half solo. Love it! I have no one to answer to, can plan everything I want to do, and have never felt lonely at all.

 

I am very outgoing when I want to be, and enjoy my solitude and privacy when I need it. Definitely not shy, I join in with group activities at times, and can strike up a conversation w/anyone!:)

 

Just go and have a great time. I meet some great folks everywhere on the ship, in the piano bar, dinner, etc.

This past April while onboard Paradise, I was pretty much alone until I met my dinner mates after that point I had some people to hang out with.

The Maitre'D hooked me up with a table of 10 with 8 beautiful ladies and 1 extra ugly guy. We lost the ugly guy after day 2 :D
