kenmacdonald4 Posted November 6, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 6, 2008 Hi, I booked the Jewel in a few weeks for my wife, 12 yr old son and I. We didn't want to spend much, so we booked an inside cabin on deck 11 midship (II). Now I see there are Ocean View on deck 5 all the way forward (F) for the same price. Do you think its worth changing, or should I hold out and hope the prices go down on better ocean views or balconies? Thanks!
Greymeowsr Posted November 6, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 6, 2008 Do either of you have motion issues at sea? Do you know? Here's a couple general tips. For a smoother sail with less pitch and roll stay amidships and on lower decks. Avoid staterooms that are far forward. They have the most sea caused movement. Your deck 11 amidships is good, but you will get some roll being up that high. Cabins forward are likely to have considerable sea moving issues. However, you are going to the Caribbean which generally has pretty smooth sailing. My wife and I generally get OV because she is claustrophic, but it truly is all in her head. On our last cruise we were never in the room before midnight and always left by 7am, so she never looked out the window. We're doing Jewel in January and have an OV on deck 5 amidships. iKarenE Posted November 8, 2008 #3 Share Posted November 8, 2008 I don't see much difference in the ships movement from midship to forward. You'd be lower if you move and they say that's better too. I know they say it makes a difference but if the water is rough you're going to feel it no matter where you are, just my opinion. I've been forward, mid and aft and I would choose the ocean view over location. It's nice to see the sunsets, weather and if it's day or night! Another thing to consider with the location is how close you'll be to things you want to go to. It's nice to be close to the places you'll go to more frequently but to me that doesn't really matter either.
