franksandy Posted November 7, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 7, 2008 I don't know about Canada...but in California it would cost you 10.00 per signature. Sandy

Since our DD is a Notary here in the USA, it cost us nothing. Good luck, your cost does seem a bit pricy.
crazy about critters Posted November 7, 2008 #7 Share Posted November 7, 2008 We took one of our DD friends with us and we are taking another on in Jan. We used a form like the one listed. Your bank should do it for free. Here in St.L MO they do anyway. Hope this helps.

amyh1028 Posted November 7, 2008 #9 Share Posted November 7, 2008 Also could check with your Travel Agent. We used her and it didn't cost us anything.
cruisin' cate Posted November 8, 2008 #10 Share Posted November 8, 2008 We've taken several of our children's friends with us over the years and each time I have made up my own letter similar to the samples shown. Carnival just told me to make sure it says something to the effect of giving permission to travel with "child" outside of the United States. I named the ship, dates traveling, who they would be traveling with, etc. Our bank has always notarized things for us for free. More than once, I was never asked for the letter at embarkation. I had to mention it first.
Big_Dawg Posted November 8, 2008 #11 Share Posted November 8, 2008 The letter is not to allow travel but is to let other's know that it is OK for the child to travel with you. It is more for your protection than anything. Any time you get off the ship, the letter needs to go with you.

IT DOES ALLOW TRAVEL based on the signatures attached to the "Consent form" document. It is a legal document and protects all parties when travelling to Mexico as well as satisifes cruiseline requirements. I would carry it with me when off the ship as well. It is not only the cruiseline requirement, but also supposed to be written when crossing over the border by plane, car ect... with any child that is not your know, this was put into place becasue many non custodial parents were taking kids over the border so no one is incorrect, you are both right, it does allow travel and it also allows the child to cross the border. travelntreats Posted November 8, 2008 #14 Share Posted November 8, 2008 Having been in the travel industry for many years as a TA I am aware of the need for it for any travel outside the US, but was referring to the cruisline and Mexico in particuliar, based on the OP's question. Thanks for the additional clarification though !
yogi2929 Posted November 8, 2008 #15 Share Posted November 8, 2008 In the US the notary validates that the person signing the document is truly the person signing the document. The notary confirms this by ID of the person signing. The notary does not draw up any documents. Is it possible that a Notary is slightly different in the UK? Is it also possible that the fee included the time to write a letter up? The form also allows you to make medical decisions for the minors.
