Where is the best place to rent a car. I want full insurance on it. We need a car big enough for 4 adults. Also how close are the rental places to the pier. Has anyone had luck renting a car once they arrived or is a reservation recommended.

I would contact cozumelinsider dot com they have very good rates and are local.

We were at the Puerto Maya pier a couple of weeks ago and there were several major rental car companies (Hertz, National, and Avis I think).

 

We rented a car from LessPay which was near town. We had a $6 taxi ride to their office at Hotel Barracuda and they brought us back for free. We rented a 4 door VW with A/C for about $31 per day which included the liability and collision insurance.

Thanks for that link, I think we will rent the VW. It will be much better than paying a cab and we get to see the island at our own pace.

I've always waited until I arrive in Cozumel to rent a car. But it is a good idea to print out a couple of quotes to carry with you. This will help when negotiating a price.;)

It will be hard to beat that a/c VW for 18 bucks, probably 30 with insurance and fees
