Brenda33 Posted November 14, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 14, 2008 Hi all, I have a cruise booked for myself and DH on the Miracle in June. I just read that the Miracle will be in dry dock in March. Is this generally just a couple of weeks? What exactly happens in dry dock? Thanks for any info. :)
Sting Ray Posted November 14, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 14, 2008 Dry dock is really the only way to make major hull or propulsion system repairs. For example, aircraft carriers have four brass propellers that are each 22 feet wide, and there's no way to work on something that large while the ship is in the water. I used to be in the Navy and I have a really cool picture of an aircraft carrier sitting on giant blocks in dry dock. It's quite a sight. I believe the Miracle is slated to be in dry dock for two weeks, and two cruises were cancelled as a result. Look for "Miracle" in the title of other threads and you can read more about the upcoming dry dock.

Thanks for any info. :) This was an unplanned drydock to fix some relatively urgent propulsion problems. https://www.bookccl.com/irman/replacement_cruises/deploy_master.html
Brenda33 Posted November 14, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted November 14, 2008 Thank u.....I thought dry dock was to spruce up the look of the ship. I'm glad that was cleared up. I wonder why if its something that needs to be fixed, why they are waiting so long to do it?
fllady61 Posted November 14, 2008 #5 Share Posted November 14, 2008 Most of the time, in drydock, if the ship is set for revamping ie... water slide, new televisions, new bedding, this will be done in dry dock. For instance. Sensation is going in for 1 month. she will get new televisions, the water park, and new bedding, as well as fix any other major problems like the suspension, propellers, stableizers, and things like that. Glory will be goin in for 4-6 weeks. not sure. it too will get the new bedding, televisions, out door theater screen, plumbing fixed. Probably new casino games.(other than what they have already done.) Fixing the lighting on the balconies, etc.
