reginar Posted November 21, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 21, 2008 I cruised for the first time Jan 2008 Pride with 9 family members. It was absolutely wonderful. All our rooms were on main deck , this time around were spread everywhere (31 family members this time) and Im 6A ,this appears to be the basement? Has anyone ever been in one of these rooms? Im told the window does not open. Im a little panicked about sea sickness last cruise I was seasick the first day, I found the fresh air helped with no window to open this could be bad. The disco is on that deck will there be sleep?:) Thanks for any input
NAMVET Posted November 21, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 21, 2008 Our first two cruises were on the Riviera deck in 6A cabins. we loved it. None of the windows open on the ship. The door on the balcony cabins open but no windows open. We loved the Riviera deck. We are going to have a balcony cabin next November on the Valor for a SALUTE TO VETERANS cruise.:D
GoinCruisin Posted November 21, 2008 #3 Share Posted November 21, 2008 I've had 6A's on a few cruises, most recently on a 9 day back to back which i wasn't crazy about, but it worked out great... less likely to get seasick (unless you are at the very front)... there is nothing wrong with that deck, and you will be thankful the windows don't open :p
momofzeke Posted November 21, 2008 #4 Share Posted November 21, 2008 Love Riviera deck. You are close to the gangway for getting off the ship in ports, a deck or 2 up and you have the dining room, casino, shops, bars, showroom, etc. A quick elevator ride up to Lido for buffet and pools. Less motion on Riviera so less seasickness, especially if you are mid-ship. Enjoy your cruise! :)
reginar Posted November 21, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted November 21, 2008 We had those cabins with the lovely view of the life boats LOL.Some of our group were a little put off by the view as we were told we had ocean view ,I had the door open all night was very nice. Its such a beautiful boat I wont spend much time in any cabin anyway. I Love the LIDO deck! if they would leave those lounges out Id never leave. AZ Karaoke Girl Posted November 21, 2008 #6 Share Posted November 21, 2008 They aren't really the basement lol. There are actually a couple decks below riviera where the room stewards and staff have their rooms and parties. I've not stayed on riviera deck but I wouldn't consider it a bad thing especially if you are prone to motion sickness. The lower and closer to center you are the better it is for motion sickness. And it isn't far to get to the outside for fresh air. I would take along ginger ale, ginger tablets or ginger cookies to help with seasickness the first day before you get sick. Take it before you feel sick. Or get a patch or seabands from pharmacist.
13point1 Posted November 21, 2008 #7 Share Posted November 21, 2008 I Love the LIDO deck! if they would leave those lounges out Id never leave. If you want to lay out in a lounger all night, you surely can do that. There are usually people out there until the sun comes up on every cruise I have taken.:)
falkcor Posted November 21, 2008 #8 Share Posted November 21, 2008 i wish my basement had a view of the ocean, room service, a basement steward and would arrive at a different port each day  seriously, though, they're great, too. convenient for debarkation, relatively close to the dining rooms, good for those prone to motion sickness... and last but not least, still on a cruise ship. dclark Posted November 21, 2008 #9 Share Posted November 21, 2008 I love the steerage area! I don't mind the singing gypsies and wild chickens running around, it has charactor! From the riviera floor, you can walk straight across the ship easily. My best memory of the riviera deck was on departure day, we heard a russian couple having a loud fight, screaming at each other in russian. Sounded pretty cool:D
ROCruiser Posted November 21, 2008 #10 Share Posted November 21, 2008 We have been on the Riviera deck. Our next cruise we'll be on deck 8. DS said, "No, we will have to climb all those stairs to get to our cabin from the gangway!"
Anjanu Posted November 21, 2008 #11 Share Posted November 21, 2008 My third cruise is coming up in 3 weeks! My first cruise I was midship on the Riviera deck. Absolutely loved it! My 2nd cruise I upgraded to the Main deck after declining the upgrade to the Upper deck. I have 3 more cruises booked and have declined an upgrade to a higher level and have cabins on all 3 cruises midship on the Main deck. I really wouldn't want to sleep on the higher decks. Way too much movement for me. I love venturing throughout the ship most of the day, I don't need a balcony. I mostly cruise for the ship and the ports are bonus.
