floatingpepperpot Posted November 27, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 27, 2008 My daughters passport expires 9th july and our return date is the 18th January. This means it is 10 days short of the 6 months needed on the passport. Do you think this is a problem or should I renew it before we go? Thanks Penny
steggles Posted November 27, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 27, 2008 I would ring P&O and ask them directly, I would also email them, so hopefully they will email you an OK and you can print it, and take it with you in case of any issues. But if $$'s aren't too tight, and she will use it once renewed, may as well do it now!
fitzany1 Posted November 27, 2008 #3 Share Posted November 27, 2008 :( I am pretty sure that you will need to renew it. I think it has to have at least 6 months on it from the date you get back. Kay
Ela 2 Posted November 27, 2008 #4 Share Posted November 27, 2008 We had a similar situation on our recent cruise and were told we had to have new passports. There must be at least 6 months remaining on the passport when you return to Australia. Evon.

Do you think this is a problem or should I renew it before we go?Thanks Penny There is no question about it...6 months is exactly that you need to renew it now....renewing a child's passport for reasons of child safety is exactly the same as applying for a new one, so do it now. They are pretty quick just the same...i did my daughters which had some added complications this month and it only took one day longer than the quoted 10 working days...but I was able to go into the passport office and lodge it here in Canberra. Dont stress just get it done now.
Brossy Posted November 28, 2008 #6 Share Posted November 28, 2008 I think it depends on who you talk to at P&O. My friend sailed in August & she asked me to put their passport details on her cruise personaliser. It wouldn't allow me to put her husband or her sons because they wouldn't have 6 months left on their passport. She spoke to a supervisor at P&O and they said it was okay to travel (this was about 10 days out from their cruise). Have you tried to enter the details on the cruise personaliser? My 5 year old son's passport is also borderline and the personaliser accepted the expiry date . Let us know how you get on because I might have a similar problem and have to ring them myself.
sailawaysally Posted November 28, 2008 #7 Share Posted November 28, 2008 I wouldn't be taking the chance, it's not worth worrying about. Get it renewed. It's best to have it all legal etc. because you are going to another country where they may want it that way as well.
Ela 2 Posted November 28, 2008 #8 Share Posted November 28, 2008 Hi, To find out if you need to renew the passport, surely you should phone the Immigration Department. If they don't require you to have 6 months remaining on the passport when you return into Australia, then see if P & O will accept a nearly-expired passport. I can understand that another country would require a visitor to have 6 months remaining on the passport. Maybe your departure might be delayed and it would be awkward if you did not have a current passport. I thought it was odd that our own country required us to have 6 months remaining on the passport when we returned to Aus, but that is what we were told. I suggest you check with the Immigration Department.

floatingpepperpot Posted November 28, 2008 Author #10 Share Posted November 28, 2008 Thanks for all your replies and helping me to make up my mind. I have decided to renew her passport as I think that is the easiest thing to do. I certainly don't want trouble when we leave. Getting quite excited as not too long now before we go. aussiedisneyfan Posted November 29, 2008 #11 Share Posted November 29, 2008 As peeved as I get that we lose the time on our passports by renewing early, someone on here pointed out ages ago that whilst a passport is expensive ($208) it only works out to be $5 for the 6 months you lose.
