Stores near Port in Galveston

We are flying into Texas and will be taking Carnival transportation to the Port. We would really love to be able to bring some bottled water, canned soda and a few bottles of wine with us on board (sounds like a lot but we are three families 12 in all).

Are there any stores within walking distance that a few of us can hit, and walk back to the port from?

Thanks.

Due to Ike, you won't find anything close that will be open for business. It would take a car or taxi to get to the stores for what you need. The Strand would have been the closest, but Ike dealt a big blow to all the businesses there.

I am afraid Y'all are probably going to need a taxi.

What day is your cruise departure? Can't buy liquor in Texas before noon on Sunday.

When we were in Galveston on Wednesday we were talking to the owner (or manager, I'm not sure which!) of a shop on the Strand...I think it was the Emporium. He was getting close to completion and expected to be opening soon...the power was restored, the boards were coming off the windows, and peeking inside he appeared to be pretty well stocked. The shop sells souvenirs and also some drinks and grocery items. If that store is open, it is within walking distance of the cruise terminal -- on the Strand near 21st.

Yep, word is, the Old Strand Emporium is open this weekend.

Not sure of the name of the shop. But we were on the Strand yesterday and there was a shop with about 100 different kinds of beer and 100 types of wine. Water soda energy drinks etc.

Granted only 1 in 10 stores have reopened.

Definite walking distant from the terminal.
