we just got a new pair of binoculars for our Alaska cruise. I noticed the tubes close to our eyes can be rotate up and down. Is this normal or a defect? My old binoculars have flexible rubber that won't move. thanks.:o

If what you got is a high quality binoculars like zen-rays, the moving parts are the twisted up/down eyecups. You can rotate it up if you don't wear glasses, or turn it down if you wear glasses. It is a very nice feature to have. There are some previous discussions on binoculars that I found to be helpful.

Yes, we have zen-ray. It makes sense now. Both DH and I wear glasses, we left them in down position and can see a full range without blackout even when we have our glasses. Thank you very much for explaining this. I am sure it is a nice feature for people who don't wear glasses.
