CruisinOnWheels Posted December 8, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 8, 2008 We are considering a November 2009 sailing, and are wondering what we could expect (from a historical standpoint) Hurricane/rough weather activity to be in Florida/caribbean area? Caribbean Sunsets Posted December 9, 2008 #2 Share Posted December 9, 2008 I cruised the western caribbean over this past Thanksgiving week. We left out of FLL. The first day or so was rather rough with high winds as we cruised along Cuba. We weren't able to stop at Ocho Rios. The year before we left from San Juan and the seas were wonderfully calm and were able to stop at all the planned ports. I do enjoy cruising in November and the time works the best for the group we travel with. Whenever you do cruise...ENJOY!!
cruiserbryce Posted December 20, 2008 #3 Share Posted December 20, 2008 Did the Bahamas for Thanksgiving on our first cruise and the weather was perfect...the seas are somewhat unpredictable...I am sure even though ours was smooth someone else has gone in November and had the roughest seas of any trip... Mamabug Posted January 28, 2009 #4 Share Posted January 28, 2009 Did carribean cruise in Nov. 2004 and got caught in Hurricane Frances. Cruise started as 5 day and turned into 9 day cruise. Carnival handled it very well and we cruised the Gulf of Mexico out of the way of the hurricane. Only one day was the water so rough that the waves were hitting out porthole. You could tell people were getting sea sick because there were barf bags located everywhere and people were disappearing. No complaints here except they ran out of ice cream!!!!! Kids were upset along with me!!!
Acker Posted April 29, 2009 #5 Share Posted April 29, 2009 It's so difficult to know if booking a cruise during the hurricane season is the right thing to do. I figure the odds are with us that all will be okay. And, if not, that's what insurance is for!
BroncosFan2010 Posted April 29, 2009 #6 Share Posted April 29, 2009 I have no problem cruising during hurricane Season. The rates are usually cheaper, and the technology is so good these days that it is unlikely that the ship won't be able to avoid a large storm.
