eleanordew Posted December 9, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 9, 2008 My spry 78-year-old mother wants to go on a cruise that stops in Belize. I know NCL ships stop in Belize, and I know that the HAL Veendam stops there. Are there any other cruise lines that I should look at before I recommend a particular cruise for her? thanks for your comments. - Jean
traveljunky99 Posted December 9, 2008 #2 Share Posted December 9, 2008 We used Carnival in Nov(from Tampa). Please remember the ships usually dock/tender in each port only for about 8 hours. Hence, you have to use your time wisely and plan your tours. Good luck.
Toyz711 Posted December 9, 2008 #3 Share Posted December 9, 2008 there are several that go there, we passed several that were getting ready for the passengers to start boarding the tender boats. it's interesting to see the ships, surrounded by all this little boats...tenders, private fishing boats (used for excursions), supply boats..all waiting for the gangway to open. does she know that it will be a tender to get to port? while easy to use, it does require being able to step on a bouncing boat and walk to your seat? as long as she has someone with her, she should be fine. eleanordew Posted December 10, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted December 10, 2008 Hi -- thanks for the info ... Mom doesn't know about the tenders, but she hasn't had any problem with them yet. But I will definitely let her know before we pay any money. -- Jean
2CrusinOldies Posted December 15, 2008 #5 Share Posted December 15, 2008 Hi, We always go to Belize on Carnival cruise ships. Two years ago we took my mother who was 78 years old and used a walker. The people were wonderful in helping her board the cruise ship as well as the tenders in each port. In addition, the independent tour operators we use were awesome in helping and making sure she was comfortable! I don't know what she likes to do byt try to do a tour with her that she won't forget! Have fun!!:D
