bdiddy Posted December 16, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 16, 2008 We are flying down a day early and will be staying a night in San Juan. I'm about to start looking for a hotel so I thought I would ask if anyone has any recommendations. Our flight gets in at 2pm on Sat, cruise leaves at 8pm on Sunday. We aren't really interested in doing any excursions while there (we were in San Juan on a previous cruise) just more seeing the local sites, places to eat, etc... Thanks! Finbar127 Posted December 16, 2008 #4 Share Posted December 16, 2008 We stayed at the Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino in San Juan last year before and after our Serenade cruise. It is a beautiful hotel right on Condado beach. If you want a cheap place to eat there is a great pizza place called Danny's International about two blocks away. Alexis Posted December 17, 2008 #5 Share Posted December 17, 2008 I also agree on the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino. We will stay there again on our next cruise out of San Juan. Besides having it's own great places to eat, it is close to many other restaurants and shops. http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/sjupr-san-juan-marriott-resort-and-stellaris-casino/

ladydancer Posted December 17, 2008 #12 Share Posted December 17, 2008 Another big vote for El Convento in Old San Juan. You can always stay in a beautiful hotel on the beach somewhere, but El Convento is very unique. It used to a convent and is right across the street from the Cathedral, and up the street from the original city gate. There is lots of history in the area, many things to see, and you can walk everywhere to all the sights. You'll get the real feel of Old San Juan. Caribbean Sunsets Posted December 17, 2008 #13 Share Posted December 17, 2008 I've stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan. Conveniently located and within walking distance to shops and is directly across from one of the piers. We rolled our suitcases across the street...so easy. wrp96 Posted December 17, 2008 #14 Share Posted December 17, 2008 I've stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan. Conveniently located and within walking distance to shops and is directly across from one of the piers. We rolled our suitcases across the street...so easy. Please note that not all cruiselines use Pier 4 (the pier across from the Sheraton) for their cruises from San Juan. This year in fact, only Carnival is using Pier 4. The rest are using the Pan Am Pier across the harbor from Old San Juan - about a 15 minute taxi ride away. The Sheraton is still a good hotel, but unless you are sailing Carnival please don't book it expecting to be able to drag your bags across the street to the ship. I should have noted that I was there last year, and we choose that hotel specifically for the close proximity to the pier and surrounding area.:)

Thanks! The taxi cost from to/from the airport to/from Pier 4 will be $20.50 for up to 5 people in a cab, plus $1 per luggage. Here is the info: http://www.puertoricodaytrips.com/getting-around-by-taxi/ If you decide to stay at a hotel elsewhere in the SJ area, here is where to find out your hotel's zone: http://www.puertoricodaytrips.com/hotel-taxi-zones/ The bus is not an option if you have luggage, they don't allow big suitcases on. Thanks! The cost of taxis are set rates. I remember it being about $25 per taxi. We were a group of 9 so needed 2 taxis. When we disembarked, we did negotiate with the many van drivers at the pier and paid $5 pp from Pier 4 back to the airport.
sweet angel Posted December 30, 2008 #19 Share Posted December 30, 2008 Okay, how about Courtyard by Marriott San Juan Miramar? We won't get there til about 6:30 or 7:00 pm, so just really looking for a place to eat and sleep before heading to the ship the next day.
