NCL Star Review & Port Nightmare

Frightening story, but becoming more and more commonplace as the world generally spirals into chaos. Don't use your previous experiences with anywhere as a benchmark. It is getting bad EVERYWHERE including the USA.

Do not wear jewelry, keep important docs in your safe and carry only copies of your passport. Do not show wads of money or portfolio of credit cards. Use under clothes money belts and the like, but never ever let anyone see it (thieves look to see where you keep your money and go for that ... and they are very very good).

Wow. I'm so glad that your children are ok. What a horrible experience.

I know this kind of stuff happens, but I guess I didn't realize this kind of violence was that common in Mexico. I've never really traveled much, especially internationally and my best friend and I will be cruising for the first time this spring. We will be making a stop in Cozumel and planned on taking a taxi to one of the beach resorts and spending the day there. Is it true that Cozumel is one of the safer cities in Mexico? Should we be concerned about taking a taxi to this beach resort on our own since it isn't a cruise sponsored excursion?

Cozumel is very safe, however I would still exercise some level of caution. I am a single parent and my DD and I have been here numerous times. We even spent 4 days of a land vacation here. So I can say I felt very safe walking to and from the hotel daily/nightly and even walking to the movie theater several blocks away. The people are very friendly, helpful and eager to please. It is not mainland Mexico where the crime is more plentiful.

You will be fine in Cozumel. I have yet to see less than 4 ships in port at any given time so you will definitely not be on the beach alone. If you feel more comfortable, you and your BF could always pair up with others.
