Pier car rentals booked, where else to get car?

We are arriving on Dec. 31 and I know I am late on this, but we want to rent a car. Any reviews on locally owned rentals or what else we can do? We are planning on touring and snorkeling more than one beach. We have a family of 5, so a subcompact will not work. Some hotels appear to rent, what is close to pier? The airport has some cars, but not sure how far, cost effective and time wasting that would be. I am becoming too upset with this, along with getting ready for the holidays
