What's with being "bored?"

And isn't being bored sometimes a good thing, when you compare it to being at home and having laundry, cleaning and cooking to do?

Anyways I get this excuse a lot when I suggest to people who have never cruised to try one. They always say, " I think I would get bored". I mean even with all the activities to do onboard ,sometimes I admit I may have felt lazy and may have even felt a tad "bored" on a cruise. But bored in a good way! I mean isn't that what a vacation should be about, having no worries and the freedom to do as much or as little as you please?

SIGH. I guess you just can't please some people. To me people that get that bored anyways and can't occupy themselves are boring! I can always find a good time for just ME.

I have a good friend who I can't get to cruise with me. She tells me that she wants to do the land trips while she still can because there is more to see. She also told me that she would be bored on the cruise. She is going to wait until she can't get around anymore. I always till her that there's plenty to do but she still won't go. That's why I travel/cruise solo. It's hard to get friends to agree on anything. Mary49

While that appeals to some people, many cruise to be active and explore places, which is hard to really do in a half day port stop.

I have friends that tried cruising and will never set foot on a ship again. They prefer to travel to a destination and get a real flavor of the locale, rather than visit a bunch of places and be on the ships schedule.

We are pretty new to cruising having only been on 2 so far, 3rd one in Feb. We have always done land (driving) vacations before and really enjoyed them because we do get to see more, but on a cruise we tend to relax more and just bum around the ship. We are not party people at all. We have occasional drinks but for the most part we just look at cruising as a mode of transportation. Every one cruises for differant reasons. That is probably why it is so poplar for vacations for many people. Each person is there for a differant reason. Sometimes I do like being bored because that means I am not worrying about anything.:)

I feel this way about cruising Europe. I cruised in 1994 on the Song of Norway and will never forget how awful it was being on the tours and herded like a bunch of cattle through places like the Vatican. Never again. We do land trips to places like Europe and cruise the Caribbean because with few exceptions, the islands are the islands. We spent 8 days in Paris last year and I felt like I'd barely skimmed the surface of what was there, and I'd been before. I cannot fathom doing any European city again in less than a day that a cruise offers  Just MHO.

As for being "bored", I think "bored" is relative. And really is what you make of it. I've been cruising since I was 21 years old (now 45) and have never, ever found myself sitting in the room "bored out of my mind". In my 20s I was ALWAYS out on deck tanning or in the bars or discos and could always find fun things to do. Today, at 45 I still tan a lot, but am not on the go 24/7 on a cruise like I used to. The idea of relaxing on a balcony reading a book watching the ocean go by is VERY appealing to me now. At 20, my head would've exploded if I'd tried to do that. It's all in what you make of it. If someone can't find something to do on a ship it makes me wonder what their life looks like!!

Not everyone likes the same activities as you.....just because they would get bored on a ship does not make them a boring person. We try to pick a cruise with the most port days.......we are good for one sea day and no more then 2 then after that we tend to get antsy.......

Some people can cruise the same line year after year and not be bored.

Some people need to switch it up.......different strokes for different folks lol!

My husband thought he might be bored on a cruise...until he took one (now 11 cruises later he no longer worries). Between gambling, eating, basketball, pingpong and volleyball tourneys, waterslides, movies, and all the other stuff, he never found time to be bored.

I find I don't have enough time to do everything I want to do.

Ok...I'll fess up...I'm one of those people that have said "I'm not so sure I want to go on a cruise...I'm afraid I'll be bored". Our first cruise will be on the Victory's Southern Caribbean Cruise. Since we'll be pulling into a different port each day I know I'll definitely won't be bored! I'm not one to join in the different activities that I've read about and I don't really drink. So, here's hoping for a great first cruise that will make me want to go on another that will offer sea days so I can enjoy the ship. :)

I agree with you!! Last cruise I went one I only went to one show the whole 5 night cruise and I was NEVER bored!! I laid by the pool...chatted with people, etc etc...I had a blast!! I have done other things on different cruises and cannot imagine how someone could say they are bored with all that is going on..there is soo much to do!! :)

We like to keep busy also and try to book cruises with lots of ports.

One, maybe two days at sea are plenty for us. DH gets bored faster

than me. He'll only stay by the pool for about an hour, then its off to

explore..........usually ends up at the casino. There are also many

games and activities to participate in or just watch.

Kaboochi, were on the Victory in March. We've done the Southern

route 3 times since 1998 and keep going back. You'll love it. I've

been waiting for them to switch ships and they finally have. We did

the Inspiration once and Destiny twice. Seven islands seem like a lot

but you can always have an afternoon nap before dinner!!! That's

what we do. Have fun on your cruise.

I have taken a few cruises and it is a little boring now. I do more in my town than I would on a cruise. After a while you see the same shows on board,we have casinos here, video slot machines are everywhere here.Actually we just came from there 7 miles away. We have great oceanside night clubs, great weather, plenty of water activities, fishing, sailing, ect.

Now I can do without the bingo rip off,the pool games, the trivia cheaters, and the spa rip offs.

I don't know why people think laundry is such a big deal and unless you are a pig, picking up afetr yourself is no big deal either.

But I do like the ports and overall it still is a getaway. When a land vacation becomes more affordable,I will do them more often.
