Christmas on Carnival, why so different?

the decline of decorations is not to do with cost cutting, it's to do with the many faiths on board, and they have to worry about not offending people. we weren't even allowed to say merry christmas, it's happy holidays now!! years ago, they used to decorate the ships right after halloween, but there was a lot of upset people saying it was being all about the Christian faith being represented too much, so they have cut back over the last couple of years to try to represent everyone's faith.

(and the decorations are provided by an outside company, nothing to do with on-board management and budgets!!!)

That's odd.........we were wished "Merry Christmas" thruout our cruise from crew members on the Elation. And the ship was also all decked out, with lit trees, garland, gingerbread town, plenty of Christmas music....etc.

I have to say though, after being on the Valor, Elation and the Crown Princess during Dec......Princess wins hands down.....gotta love the snow!!!! Never thought I'd see it snowing in the Caribbean lol!

they still do decorate, just not to the extent of 8 years ago. and it is hard to break a 20 something year habit of saying merry christmas, but we are advised by our head of dept to avoid it as not to offend anyone!!

Too bad! If they are going to downgrade it........then they need to reduce the price of that cruise:( People pay big bucks for that cruise......

Merry Christmas!:)

I dont get what the big deal is about saying Merry Christmas.. Someone is trying to be nice or sociable by saying it..

Someone sneezes one usually responds with God bless you or gesundheit... is that offensive? is it religious even though one is saying god?

I thought it was just good manners...

Just a thought to think about.....How would you feel if everyone wished you a Happy Hanukkah?

Before this thread goes poof...

I would not care if someone wished me Happy Hanukkah. That is why I don't understand why saying "Merry Christmas" is such a big deal to so many. Why is it so offensive?

By the way...the Inspiration was decorated nicely for Christmas when we were there on Thanksgiving. It was nice. Not overbearing, but it was there. I didn't notice any Christmas music though. And, I would have noticed because a couple radio stations here started with it 24/7 before Thanksgiving. That is just WRONG!

I wouldn't...then again I'm not a Christmas(y) type of person. That being said I wouldn't like to see any ship decorated for any "holiday" except Memorial Day, 4th of July and Veteran's Day.

Signed,

a

Ebenezer

Lets think a little more about this...

4th of July is a US holiday, so the Canadians and other foreign guests, as well as most of the crew would not really appreciate that.

Veterans Day...well...as above, but even more we certainly do not want to be seen as supportive of War

and Memorial Day also is related to Veterans day...

so, following your logic, we just should not celebrate ANY holidays while cruising.

We were on the Pride Dec 7-14th. The only Christmas type decoration was a small table that had a few gingerbread houses on it. They weren't very good either. They didn't look complete. I kept waiting for them to do more work on it, but that never happened. I was a little sad that there weren't more decorations, or even a Christmas tree. Oh well.

CCL wants people to pay top dollar for a xmas cruise, but they don't want to deliver a xmas cruise. As the purser told me, they were not playing holiday music or movies because they didn't want to offend people or different cultures or countries. It is pretty obvious who these people were.

Oh, please do enlighten us with your insight and wisdom...........who were "these" people??????

I made the mistake this year and offend both religions so I'm back to saying nothing or I wish you a very happy holiday season which also offends people.

I would like to find out the belief and customs of the many people that work on the ships. I'm not a big cruiser yet, only 1 cruise under my belt, but most of the ships are not US owned (registered??), don't know what word I'm looking for? So would a ship do what their crew is use to?

I do have to thank all of you for helping me. I now know my decision if I'm asked to take a cruise around any religious holiday.

I hope that those of you who celebrate Christmas had a very wonderful Christmas day!

And everyone that celebrates Hanukkah had 8 wonderful nights with family.

And to my friends who celebrate the joys of winter holidays that I have yet to celebrate...enjoy!

You realize, of course, that the price of the cruise has nothing to do with Christmas or Hannukah or anything other than supply and demand. Many people enjoy cruising over the holidays, demand is high, prices are higher because people pay them.

Same with resorts and hotels...demand is high...so they can charge what they want with expectations that those who want to go will pay the price.

Curious to know what the "it" is in the first sentence.

The Destiny's christmas/holiday decorations were similar to the ones in the pics above. They also had christmas music piped in throughout the ship.

They had 2 or 3 trees that I saw. I thought the decorations were nice and tasteful. Not over the top crazy, but pretty.

They also had a gingerbread village right outside the casino. You could tell where people tried to eat some of it though. I hope they fixed it.

I would LOVE to go on a cruise for Christmas and New Years, I love traveling during the season and seeing other cultures and places and how they do their celebrations. (Whether Christmas or not) I thought Cozumel had really pretty lights up all over.

I just wish the prices weren't jacked up so much over a regular week.

I guess I just have to go earlier in Dec when the prices are rock bottom!

Hmm. I was on the Splendor on Christmas. There were Christmas decorations. There was the Christmas music. If you went to look at some of the ships cameras on t.v. they had Christmas music playing. They had the gingerbread village set up. They had Christmas Caroling around the Christmas tree. I personally don't care either way. If there were a trillion decorations or if there were none. If you want to celebrate a particular way maybe cruising during Christmas is not for you. You can stay home and decorate as you please, play as much Christmas music as you want and leave cookies for Santa. Which by the way they did at Camp Carnival.

Huh?

This isn't PC. It's common sense.

It is totally PC......

The demand is there because of the holiday;) If they don't supply it (a festive holiday cruise) then the demand will go down;) They advertise it they need to deliver.......

This is the first year on here that I have heard of the downgrading and disapointment......I can only imagine what the majority of the holiday cruisers are thinking......

I am with you! It's also a federal holiday, in my opinion, making it even more secular than it is..

Its a traditional holiday season.. there is no creche.. no crosses.. no Star of David.. it's a tree..and a menorah = its pretty universal..

OH Did I wish you Merry Christmas? MERRY CHRISTMAS HAPPY HANNACHUH..

Was that insulting? I think not.. the intent is all in good will!

Is anyone insulted on Mardi Gras Cruises out of New Orleans...? I mean it is a pre-lent celebration.. lol

HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
