swom Posted January 3, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 3, 2009 Has anyone successfully booked a pre-cruise hotel though Vacation Rentals By Owners (VRBO)? I was looking at their website and most rentals are for a week or more, but just wondering if anyone has used them for one night pre-cruise in San Juan and was it a good choice? Thanks! Beckaroous Posted January 3, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 3, 2009 Not in Caribean however we rented a house in New Hampshier for a weekend through them. Any house you like you can write to the ower and ask what the rate is for 1 night. Thats what we did and it worked out PERFECT!!!
RayInPR Posted January 3, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 3, 2009 When you're dealing with vacation rental sites like VRBO.com or VRconnection.com (or many others), you're technically not renting through that web site. Those sites serve only as listing sites (kinda like the YellowPages in the phone book). You'll end up renting and making your plans directly with the owner of the vacation rental (or with the management company, if that's how the owner chooses to run their rental). Every private vacation rental is different - some are apartments or condos or private homes on private property. And all are run differently - from who you deal with, to what amenities are provided, to check in/out times, etc. You should spend time communicating with the owner of the rental until you feel comfortable that you know for sure what you're getting and what is expected of everyone taking part in the transaction. And I always suggest that get as much in writing as possible - oftentimes this is in the form of a rental contract or agreement. Unfortunately, you may have difficulty finding a private rental for just 1 night. It's just not cost-effective to prepare the home for a single night, that's why many vacation rentals have minimum night stays. But you never know, keep looking. Hope this helps!
