cruisinfamily07 Posted January 5, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 5, 2009 Hi Everyone....well yesterday was not a pleasant day when my DH realized that we would be onboard the Jade for the superbowl! I realize there will be a time difference but does any one know if we will be able to watch the superbowl? He will not really care what time it is at! :(
Cubechick Posted January 5, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 5, 2009 Hi Everyone....well yesterday was not a pleasant day when my DH realized that we would be onboard the Jade for the superbowl! I realize there will be a time difference but does any one know if we will be able to watch the superbowl? He will not really care what time it is at! :( Based on reports from past years, I'll say yes. The Superbowl is transmitted on ESPN's international feed which the cruise lines can pick up. We were able to watch the AFC and NFC championship games last year on the Gem and I know the Superbowl was broadcast on the Gem as well. (I'm counting on watching those Championship games again this year!)
ecdmcguire Posted January 5, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 5, 2009 I was on the star last year during the superbowl. They had it playing in I think 3 bars and the casino. The casino also had a party for all people participating in a raffle (where you buy a box for $20). I won the final and won $1000. So you will be able to watch it. Black Pearl Sailor Posted January 5, 2009 #4 Share Posted January 5, 2009 The Jade had the College Bowl games showing on this years Christmas/New Year cruise, so yes in the bars and casino.
Dive Master Posted January 5, 2009 #5 Share Posted January 5, 2009 Yes, you should be able to see the Panthers claw their way to the Lombardi Trophy !
Poconolady Posted January 5, 2009 #6 Share Posted January 5, 2009 If this is correct and the Jade picks up the signal, then the 2009 Superbowl will kick off at 6:20PM Eastern, 1:20AM Egyption time on Mon Feb 2. The ship will be docked over night in Alexandria.
CruisnGram Posted January 5, 2009 #7 Share Posted January 5, 2009 Yes, you should be able to see the Panthers claw their way to the Lombardi Trophy ! I just realized that we will be on the Sky Superbowl Sunday. I sure hope everyone is right and it is broadcast as I plan on watching the Raven's snatch that trophy! :-) CG
Us2inFL Posted January 5, 2009 #8 Share Posted January 5, 2009 Generally if the game is on in the bars, it's also going to be on a designated channel in the staterooms. I do not believe they have dedicated feeds to only the televisions in the public space.
Carol_Hill Posted January 5, 2009 #9 Share Posted January 5, 2009 Having just come off the Sky, I would give you ZERO chance to see the SuperBowl on the Sky. The Sky has ESPN (regular), not ESPN International. The NFL playoff games were Saturday and Sunday and the only way that we saw any of them was the PASSENGERS set up an internet live TV feed and were able to hook it up to a TV in the sports bar. The Dolphins were playing and there were about 40 fans who showed up en masse to the purser's desk and demanded the game be shown on TV. The only way we were able to see the game is because a passenger set it up with their laptop. I'm not totally convinced it was legal to do what they did, but that's how we were able to see the Dolphins game and the Eagles game later on. I do not believe they have dedicated feeds to only the televisions in the public space. On the Gem last year, they actually did block the feed of the Championship games to the staterooms! They wanted you watching in the bars and spending your $$$. I'm not saying that's always going to be the case, but it doesn't hurt to know it can happen! shalimar Posted January 6, 2009 #14 Share Posted January 6, 2009 Oh please, please don't tell me this. It's too late for me to cancel the cruise! :( CG Superbowl Sunday is Feb. 1st this year.... Does that help you out? Seems like it use to always be the last Sunday in January, but not so in recent years. From your signature info, I thought this might be to your advantage this year.
