A&Jfamily Posted February 2, 2009 #226 Share Posted February 2, 2009 This is a simple dining room tip - ask your waitstaff what is good...they have tried about all of it and have seen it in the kitchen. Sometimes, stuff just comes out better one night than another and they can pass that along. Hasn't failed me yet!

okgirl Posted February 2, 2009 #229 Share Posted February 2, 2009 From what I have read, only hand washing with soap and water prevents NORO germs. Lysol wipes and clorox kill germs but not the virus. They don't hurt and I do use the Lysol wipes but I use my elbow to press elevator buttons, use a tissue to open door handles and never touch the hand railings. I do however touch every button on a slot machine with my bare hands:eek::D Go figure! Kaboochi You are absolutely right about this. Anti-bacterial wipes do little to nothing to eliminate the Norovirus........I've never gotten sick on a cruise but I am fanatical about washing my hands and not touching my face. I use handrails and spend most of my time punching a button in the casino and I do have wet wipes with me all the time, but I'll usually take a break from gambling, go straight to the restroom to wash up, open the door with the tissues provided and then go sit down and have a drink. If I eat at the buffet, which isn't often, sister and I will go through the line, then each of us takes a turn going to the BR to wash up before we even open our utensils. So far so good............ As for tips.......all here are good ones, we especially use sticky notes, but we kind of leave them in secret places around the ship too.........If we're looking for each other, we'll start in the cabin where we always note what time we were there last, then we have a set path through the lobby, then promenade, then aft to the Lido and back to the promenade. We'll leave a sticky note at the far end of the casino bar with what time we were there and the other one just waits.
Chriz Posted February 2, 2009 #230 Share Posted February 2, 2009 Great information in this thread. We always take a small fan to keep the air moving while in the cabin, especially when trying to sleep.
RoadTripFanatic Posted February 2, 2009 #231 Share Posted February 2, 2009 Here are my tips for cruising w/ Toddlers: 1. Bring Disposable sippy cups. Fill up your sippy cups in the morning w/ juice because it magically disappears after breakfast. When you could travel with a lot of liquids on the plane I would buy those small gerber juice containers. I would wash them out after they were used and fill them up with the ships juice. Also the milk cartons disappear after breakfast. 2. The bar will provide you with chocolate syrup for your chocolate milk if they don't have chocolate milk out. 3. Pack any type of children's medicine you might need. No one wants to try to find children's advil in the middle of the night. 4. Bring your child's favorite snacks. It will make your days easier! Plus when you go out on excursions you don't have to worry about finding them something to eat in a strange place. 5. If you carry your disposable sippy cups around the ship in your bag put them in a large zip lock bag. (Trust me on this one!) 6. Bring a night light. jan can Posted February 10, 2009 #235 Share Posted February 10, 2009 This is going to sound ridiculous. Do your cell phones work on board the ship? I was on two cruises and never could pick up a signal.
jan can Posted February 10, 2009 #236 Share Posted February 10, 2009 For the magnetic strip card for your safe use a casino card. If you take duplicate cards (same name & player number) then you both will always have access to the safe. It is also a backup in case the orginal card gets misplaced. Skeeter1602 Posted February 11, 2009 #238 Share Posted February 11, 2009 If at all possible try and have all of your carry on luggage be the type with wheels on them. I wished I had thought of this on my first cruise. It can be a long walk through the lines at check in and I got real tired of carrying, or constantly having to pick up my bags and move them!

Jan Can, We did exactly that on our 2/1 Victory Cruise (boo hoo, want to go back now!) It worked great. We each had a card and had no problems opening the safe. We didn't need to worry about who had the card. Hiding it in the drawer works well to. I wonder if hotel room keys would work as well? I posed the question on other boards but never got a response. Anyone know? I always travel with an insulated cup and I love it. The ice doesn't melt and the drink stays cold - best one I've found is the double walled stainless steel from LL Bean, THE BEST!!!! 2sunny Posted February 12, 2009 #241 Share Posted February 12, 2009 The power strip and: our TA gave us great Lanyards. They are the kind with plastic envelopes for our sign and sail cards, plus the bottom with our S&S cards will unclip from the lanyard so "if in the evening, or anytime" we would want to put it in your purse, pocket or backpack, etc.
mncrusin Posted February 16, 2009 #242 Share Posted February 16, 2009 after faithfully reading this board before we left here's my reviews upon return: Would leave without: insulated mug, bungee cord, white board if with a group, beach bag, night light and alarm clock. Never used: power strip, magnet for A/C and shower curtain clips New tip from this list: Shoe holder: thought it was dorky, bought one anyways, loved it. Adding to my list for next time: headband. Even tho I had a pigtail, found that on the breezy decks and our balcony, I still had hair in my eyes and mouth.

Yup, goes over the door in the bathroom. if you travel with a cabin mate..the stuff in the bathroom can become cluttered and hard to find with limited counter space in most cabins. The clear plastic shoe hangers can hold personal items..medications, shampoos, aspirin, alkaseltzer, razors, creams, makeup..etc. All, easily visible through the transparent plastic and won't clutter up your counter space in the bathroom. I think I'll try it. I have this Travelon Bag that is suppose to do that same thing but it's a real pain in the neck the way it is layed out. The shoe pockets all open at the top so that should work great. Thanks!
lsycko1 Posted February 21, 2009 #250 Share Posted February 21, 2009 Make two copies of your travel docs as well as passport. Leave one copy with a friend or family member and put one copy in your suitcase. The at home copy is a safety measure that if you need it there will be someone to get a hold of. In the luggage you have an extra copy with you as well as identification in your suitcase if it gets lost. :o
