Altun Ha tours

We had 10 in our group back in December. We made arrangements with Action Boys Belize to do the tour. We absolutely, as a group, loved it! Donald was waiting for us, just outside the cruise terminal.

The van was in great shape, comfortable and air conditioned. Donald was so informative--not just about history, but about current events in Belize also. He taught us about medicinal plants, the cultural aspects of past Mayans and current Mayans. We also found him to be very safety concious. At one point during the guided tour, we had a couple leave their tour guide and tagged along with us for awhile because Donald is THAT interesting!

I believe we paid $40 per person. Go to the website for Action Boys Belize and check them out. The website has pictures of Altun Ha. I think you can also email Donald if you have more specific questions or requests to include in your tour.

Should we book a tour ahead of time?At the port? Or should we hire a taxi ?We will have 7or8 people.

You might check out experiencebelizetours.com for a great personalized tour. Send Leah Dawson an email and let her know the size of your group and where you'd like to go. Her husband, Allen, will probably be your guide. Their prices are better than the cruise lines' and most tours

include lunch at "Mayan Wells"--a very cool place with paradisaic grounds and delicious local food.

Our favorite tour company is Belizean Sun Tours, we've used them in 04, 06 and just booked again for April. Check their web site then email, they have three cruise tours listed but will also personalize their tours. You can never have to much information or two many options.

On their web sight go to Cruise tours, we went on the Xunantunich Ruin Tour, we chose to skip lunch (had pop and snacks in the van) and went to a second ruin called Cahea Pech (mean the place of ticks) only a few other people were there. Send them an email they can explain why they go to this one and not Altun Ha.
