Boarding time

What time is a good time to arrive at the port if our ship leaves at 4PM I live about 1.5 hours from the port by car and its too cold to just hang around NYC for a few hours so I was just wondering what time is boarding time. Im a fomer New Yorker so there is really nothing that catches my eye as far as sight seeing and stuff.
