Genessa Posted January 18, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 18, 2009 My wife is really interested in the flora in Alaska. How is it at that time? TIA! I was in Alaska at the beginning of July, so can't answer your question for that time, but, the flora I saw in July was different from any I've seen elsewhere. There is little "scent" to the flora. The only time I got a whiff of anything was early on a dewy morning when dh & I were hiking on a trail at McKinley Wilderness Lodge. I was driving all our companions crazy by trying to smell all the plants. The pine trees didn't smell. Most of the "flowering" things were Queen Anne's lace, another plant that is similar in looks, I'm brain freezing on the name - I think it either starts with a v or has a v in it...not as white as QA lace, more ivory, and cottonwood (I think) trees. Anchorage had many baskets of flowers growing, and by the shorefront there were marshy areas with salt-water marshy reeds.
Nancyquilts Posted January 18, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 18, 2009 That's pretty early, but there should be some. Some homes in Skagway have flower gardens, so there probably would be some there.
