sea_u_onboard Posted January 21, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2009 I have been to the Port of New Orleans a couple times - a week before Katrina. I don't remember being able to drive straight down Poydras Street to the Port of New Orleans Place (maybe I just didn't notice). Has this changed since Katrina? We are staying at the Drury and when I ran the directions on Google maps it shows being able to drive all the way through - I thought it was blocked from through traffic?? Anyone actually get to the port this way?
arpie05 Posted January 23, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 23, 2009 You could in theory do this but you can't. There's signs when you get to the Harrah's (I think) to turn right. We stayed at the Drury inn as well. The street maybe Convention - it's the last street when you turn right. When you turn left - you are at a dead end then you'll go thru a gate (not marked) and turn left to see the ship. ... Here's what Mapquest gave me... Start out going EAST on POYDRAS ST toward CARONDELET ST. 0.5 mi 2: Turn RIGHT onto CONVENTION CENTER BLVD. 0.9 mi 3: Turn LEFT onto HENDERSON ST. 0.2 mi 4: Turn SHARP RIGHT onto PORT OF NEW ORLEANS PL. 0.0 mi 5: End at 1350 Port Of New Orleans Pl New Orleans, LA 70130
sea_u_onboard Posted January 23, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted January 23, 2009 So Google is wrong. I have no problem going the other way - I just know how crowded it gets down there when people are coming and going at the same time.
