2 in the 20's

any suggestions will be appreciated

Belize is a good spot for an excursion. There is nothing very close to Belize City (except for city tour and I think a brewery), so half-day or full-day travel is required:

1) Beach/snorkeling: Belize is fringed by a barrier reef which provides excellent snorkeling and beaches. Since the reef is offshore it requires transport to the islands.

2) Mayan ruins. 3 tours are commonly available: Altun Ha, which is a half-day trip unless combined with something else, and Lamanai and Xunantunich, which are full day (7-8 hours). Either book the latter through the ship or plan very closely with a private company to make sure you get back on time.

3) Cave-tubing: float down rivers through caves in inner tubes.

4) Zipline: located close to the cave-tubing, interior of country (small country).

5) Miscellaneous: Belize Zoo, Baboon Sanctuary (actually howler monkeys), a couple other nature-type things.

The only one I personally experienced was the Lamanai ruins, which I can definitely recommend if you like archeology and nature. It is a long trip.

We've been to Belize 3 times...two we went snorkeling...one we decided we wanted to see the country..we took a whole day trip and really enjoyed it. We did the Altun Ha and The Old Belize River...saw Howler monkeys, crocodiles, huge iguanas, and the Mayan ruins. We were on a bus for 1/2 of the day and then on a small riverboat. Had a great day! We snorkeled both times in Shark Ray Alley (didn't see a shark either time..but a lot of rays)...once we went to San Pedro and last year Caye Caulker. We are going back to Belize in March and leaning towards going back to Caye Caulker. The groups we have traveled with were from their 30's to 50+..
