GEM Buffet, and Blue Lagoon

1.)GEM buffet. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

 

Overall how is the food quality, and is the hot stuff hot, cold stuff cold? Are items replaced often? Would you compare it to a high school cafeteria? Old Country Buffet/GoldenCoralle? Or better?

 

Also, is it always really crowded? Or just on embarkation day?

 

 

2.)Blue Lagoon.

 

Food quality and freshness? Anything in particular you really liked, or didn't? Is it made to order or is the food already there like buffet style?

 

Crowd factor?

For the Buffet make sure u go to the omlette station to get a fresh one, for lunch grab a fresh burger or HOT DOG from the station by the pool.....for dinner (well we only did this one time and it was pretty good) The snacks at the blue lagoon are the best..ie, wings and such

As you said food is subjective, but here goes.

 

We thought the food at the buffet was very good. Selection is quite wide. We ate breakfast and lunch there a few times, sorry never dinner. Breakfast has the usual items as does lunch. There are many action stations - stations that prepare the food to your order as you like - ie: omelette stations at breakfast - become pasta station at lunch. One tip there are several action stations throughout the buffett all doing the same thing. If you see a long line at the first one (as most people think it is the only one) move 20 feet down there you will another action station with a much smaller line. The buffet is crowded at peak times. However the buffet continues all the way to the aft of the ship and out the back into an area they call "the great Outdoors" this is just a continuation of the buffet (the choices are less) and this area too has an action station. In addition there is seating available during the day at the Italian restaurant right next door to the great outdoors. there is no food available there but it's doors are open for seating and many people don't realize this so seating was always available.

 

The Blue Lagoon is a comfort food area. It is not a buffet there is a small menu that is the same all day long every day. ( I have heard there is a breakfast menu - but never checked this out). The food is excellent. They have some of the best wings, fish and chips, soups, etc. This is a great place for lunch, after returning from a shore excursion, a nice bite in between lunch and dinner, or late at night. It was never crowded.

Have been on Dawn/Spirit, but I think the Blue Lagoon is always the same...

 

As others have said, it's comfort/diner food, but very good...fish and chips, burgers, noodles, etc. Food is made to order. On our last cruise I found a new favorite...chicken and biscuit. Mmmmm!

 

Usually crowded, and (for me) it's like pulling teeth trying to get service there. But we always go because the food is yummy...especially late at night.
