lgbteacher Posted January 27, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 27, 2009 We are driving to Galveston for our May 30 cruise. We plan to drive from OKC to somewhere south of Dallas May 29 and then drive into the port on Saturday. I have read or heard that sometimes there is a delay because they open the bridge to allow boat through. Is this true? If so, how do you know when this happens? Thanks for any help. buckanear Posted January 27, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 27, 2009 If you're coming down I45 over the causeway (the most popular way), then you shouldn't experience any delays with the bridge. The causeway doesn't raise as far as I know.
Galveston Cruiser Posted January 27, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 27, 2009 The bridge does not open over the intercoastal canal.
lgbteacher Posted January 27, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted January 27, 2009 Thanks for your quick replies. One more thing I can check off my "worry" list.
CGBCruiser Posted February 8, 2009 #5 Share Posted February 8, 2009 You shouldn't have major delays on a Sunday morning traveling between Houston and Galveston. Most of the major roadwork on the bridge over the Causeway is done. It only took us 45 minutes to take my sister to Hobby Airport after our last cruise. Now, if you're driving to IAH that's going to take longer. It still shouldn't take 2 1/2 hours though.
