cruiseljh Posted January 28, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 28, 2009 How long of a walk/hike is it from the entrance (where supposedly the tour van/bus drops you off) to the actual falls? Any further info regarding the 'waterfalls' and 'hike' would be appreciated.
Sherry Baby Posted January 29, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 29, 2009 Where the bus drops you off, there is a small gift shop and a bathroom with running water. Those who wish to swim can change here. An employee of the National Park escorts groups of people for the walk. There is a prescribed trail, much of which is paved with boardwalks where it is very wet. There are two main waterfalls. The first can be reached in 15 minutes at a leisurely pace. It's a moderate hike, a little up & down, but not too strenuous. You are immersed in the rainforest and admire all the huge, green, lush vegetation along the way. At the first waterfall, there is swimming allowed at the base. The water is cold (we were there Jan. 14), but invigorating. It is rocky and slippery. Only a few were swimming when we were there. The group pauses here to spend time admiring the water, taking pictures, or swimming. The second waterfall is a little farther along the trail, probably 10 more minutes. There is a loop trail that will bring you back to the beginning. The total time spent in the park was about 1 1/2 hours. It was about 70 degrees and humid in January. We took tons of pictures because it's so beautiful and unspoiled! Hope this info helps!
