Port shuttle in Civi, Livorno, and Naples

Recommended Posts

:)We (2 adults) will be in these 3 ports the end of April on NCL CRUISE. Does each port offer a shuttle to get out of the port area in order to get a bus or train? What is the cost? How frequently do they run? Is it difficult to get one when returning in late afternoon?

We'd appreciate any suggestions or advice, as we're looking to do these ports on our own. Thanks so much!!:p

The shuttle in Cittivechia really just takes you out of the port area. They drop you off in front of the Fort which is at the foot of town. The train is a 10 to 12 minute walk. It is free and runs about every 15 minutes.

In Livorno there is a small charge. A Lady sits at a table right outside the ship and sells tickets. The shuttle stops in town about 200 yards from the church. Runs every 20 minutes or so.

In Naples you will be within easy (5 minute) walking distance to the port entrance unless there are a large number of ships in port. Given the time of year, it should not be a problem.

Livorno shuttles drop you in Piazza Grande. Too far to walk to train station. Take bus #1 for about 1 Euro.

About Livorno, be sure about the last shuttle timing from downtown to the ship,

ask the Lady on the pier, she knows... Bus driver changes during the day, he can give you a wrong answer!

Civitavecchia port shuttles are free and reliable. On the trip back from the train station sometimes we had to wait a little for the shuttle back to our specific ship. You have no alternative of walking back to the ship - too far and too dangerous.

Livorno port shuttles are about one euro each way and as stated before take you to Piazza Grande where you walk back half a block to the bus stop on the far side of the street for Bus #1 to the train station. Don't rely on the last shuttle of the day since as also stated before the drivers may decide to end the day before what you thought was the last shuttle. We had that situation on one trip and resorted to walking back to the bus stop area and hailing a taxi. It was about 10 to 15 euros back to the ship. Most important point is to know EXACTLY where your particular ship is docked - the port is huge and the taxi drivers may not know where your ship is docked. Write the name of the port area and the "slip" number on a piece of paper.

In Naples we walked to the Capri hydrofoil terminal on one trip and we walked to the Circumvesuviana train station (not Centrale) for our day in Pompeii on another trip. Walking in Naples is a cultural experience!

I put some information on Civitavecchia for the port shuttle:

In Naples you will not need transportation... your ship just park in front of the city center...

HeinBload,

You were a tremendous help to me in the fall of 2007 when we were cruising Northern Europe and Germany. It's great to meet you again on this Mediterranean board! Thanks so much.

It is so very kind and generous of everyone on CC to respond in such detail to assist others, and your invaluable information is truly appreciated.

Nikki ;)
